Description:
The Takamaka Beach Villas are located on Cerf Island, next to the ocean, and are perfect for holidaymakers looking for peace and privacy during their getaway. The stunning local beach offers an evergreen canopy of coconut palm trees and takamaka trees, providing plenty of natural shade all day-long. The beach, as is the case with the rest of the island, is part of the protected Sainte Anne Marine Park, a collection of a dozen or so small islands surrounding a beautiful lagoon.
Cerf Island offers little in the way of what you'd call roads or paths. In fact, the closest thing to a road or walkway is the beach that circles the island, although it does tend to narrow at high tide, hence the trodden mud paths further inland, which lead to wider beaches or to one of the two beach restaurants on teh island. Don't worry about trespassing, however, as the friendly atmosphere on Cerf is almost like a little beach village. The pathways lead past shipwrecks, old chests, and other 'island treasures' that show the rich history and development of the island.
Thankfully, the beach differs from others in the Seychelles, in that it is rarely cleared of natural things such as flotsam, seaweed, or jetsam. This makes it a real natural beach. The seaweed in particular is vital for the turtles and tortoises around the Seychelles, and is also a sign that the underwater scenery of the Seychelles is thriving.
The Takamaka Beach Vilas are found in an authentic little corner of the Seychelles, in that there are no streets, cars, discos, or shops. However, you're never more than about 2 km (1.25 miles) away from Mahé, something you're reminded of every time you look out over the sea and spot the imposing silhouette of Mahé with its rainforest 'skyline' and hefty granite formations. You can also see the artificial Eden Island, as well as Victoria, the smallest capital city in the world. If you take a look to the north, you can see some modern wind-turbines, also built on an artificial island. Just a bit further along, you have an open view of the Indian Ocean.
The taxi-boat, run by Cerf Island's Habitation hotel, runs up to four times each day. The boat is perfect for those staying on Cerf who want to discover Mahé or Eden Island for themselves. This also means that you can self-cater while on Cerf, as there are shops, supermarkets, banks, restaurants, and take-aways in Victoria, on Mahé, as well as near the jetty on Eden Island. Because the Seychelles sunset is at around 18:00 each day throughout the year, the last boat of the day runs at 17:30 from Eden Island to Cerf. Therefore, it certainly helps to be a fan of absolute tranquillity and solitude to stay on Cerf Island. Guests then have the option of preparing their own dinner, or visiting one of Cerf Island's two beach restaurants.
The Takamaka Beach Villas offer a veranda with view, and outdoor furniture (two loungers, a table, and four chairs), helping you make the most of the space. Once you enter the villa through one of the two large glass doors, you'll find the lounge and the bedroom, which is equipped with a kingsize double bed. The bedroom also offers a large en suite bathroom, including a shower, double wash basin, and a WC. The lounge consists of a comfortable seating area that joins onto an American-style kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, oven, toaster, and more. Thanks to the good kitchen facilities, guests have the option to self-cater for their holiday instead of eating breakfast and dinner in one of the island's restaurants.

Villa Coco was okay. My review may well have been different if the water had been crystal clear and we had spent the whole day snorkeling.
- Some of the furniture would benefit from a makeover, but the house was absolutely clean and offered plenty of space. Our TV didn't work but was repaired on request. Other faults (lock was broken and old dishcloth) were also quickly rectified. The gas stove was shaky. I was a bit irritated that the soap and dishwashing liquid were diluted. Well, you just have to use a little more.
- The hut is in 2nd row, not really sea view. As the hut is surrounded by greenery, there are a lot of mosquitoes around, depending on the weather. We were only able to make good use of the huge terrace with anti-mosquito spray.
- It is very quiet on the island. We actually wanted to do a lot of snorkeling, but there was a lot of seaweed and churned-up sand in the water while we were there, so we didn't really see much. We didn't go for long walks on the beach: there was a lot of seaweed and garbage (broken glass!) in the sand and the beach is almost completely gone at high tide. Then you have to cross the neighboring properties (already mentioned several times) to the Hotel L'Habitation.
- The amenities of the hotel can also be used. The pool was not in good condition. But you can borrow canoes free of charge.
- Transfer: With SeyVilla the vouchers reached as far as Eden Island. Hotel L'Habitation takes over from there. Arrival and departure boat are free of charge. We had enough time to shop for food on Eden Island before our boat picked us up on the first day. If you want/need to leave Cerf outside the arrival and departure times, the round-trip costs 100 rupees per person (If you use the regular boat 3 times a day). The trip takes about 10 minutes to Eden Island. Trips outside the usual times costs 350 rupees.
- the boat brings you to Eden Island. On Sundays a lot of shops are closed, also from Eden Island it will take you some time to get to Victoria and other places.
- What I personally didn't like so much about Cerf: There are "private property" signs everywhere. Sure, I can understand that the locals don't want tourists trampling around on their property all the time. But that means you can't do "much" apart from snorkeling, kayaking and relaxing. Smaller walks are not really possible. There is a view point in the center of the island, which is impossible to find without the guidance of the hotel staff. We gave up due to rain and mosquitoes. Also there is an enclosure on Cerf with some giant tortoises. But poor things. the enclosure seemed neglected and run-down. There was a lot of garbage in the area... and as mentioned before a lot of "private property" you need to get across.
- Make sure you have everything with you: No-bites and water shoes. Otherwise you'll quickly step on broken glass or even a bee. (I'm not saying that everything is full of them, but nobody is cleaning up the beach. so rubbish will stay if you don't clear it away).
- The staff were all very friendly.
The welcome was super nice. Unfortunately, there is no sea view as the view is obscured by trees and bushes. As the villa is at the end of the complex and the path to the associated hotel takes some getting used to, especially in the dark, we would not choose this accommodation again. The Takamaka Villa is very shabby and urgently needs a general overhaul. Translation (DE): GoogleTranslate
