Imagine somewhere where you can stretch out on a relaxing chair, on your very own veranda, with a tropical drink in hand. A mild breeze blows through the air; the panoramic view includes palm trees that sway in the wind with the ocean in the background. Breathe in, and breathe out. Such a dream can come true at the Chalets Bougainville.
This pleasant property, newly-renovated in the summer of 2016, is located right on the south-east coast of Mahé. Even at first glance, the property will convince you of having made the right choice thanks to its beautiful, slightly-elevated location just 50m above the ocean, roughly halfway between the beaches of Anse Royale and Anse Forbans. Your potential home-away-from-home is surrounded by a wonderful garden, elevated above the crystal-blue ocean. Four units in four separate buildings ensure that there is a great deal of privacy here, while plants provide a greater degree of visual separation, allowing you to enjoy a bounty of freedom and flexibility during your stay in the traditional Creole architecture of these small units. This combines particularly well with the peaceful surroundings of the property, ideal for a relaxing holiday or a romantic honeymoon!
In terms of which room to choose, you’re spoilt for choice since you’ll have a comfortable, ocean-view room. All of the units are air-conditioned, and each contains one bedroom and a bathroom, along with a fully-equipped kitchen and its own veranda with garden and ocean views. The rooms come equipped with such facilities as a radio and WiFi internet, allowing you to stay in contact with the outside world during your stay if you wish to. The Villa Lemon provides even more fresh air thanks to its ceiling fans, while the view over the ocean, Anse Royale, and the nearby islands to Mahé, as well as Praslin and La Digue, is simply breathtaking. Access to your wooden veranda is through the kitchen.
The Chalet Guava is presented in a traditional manner, and is very cosy with extensive use of wood. This chalet also contains ceiling fans, while sliding doors enable you to bring fresh air into the room if you’d like to. Between these two buildings lies the main owners’ building. The owners themselves speak English, German, French, and Italian. This block is also where you can find the beautiful Studio Cocos, which offers a wonderful ocean view from the bed!
The property is located just a few minutes’ walk from a restaurant, a bus stop, a shop, and the beach of Anse Parnel. The south of Mahé offers many other beautiful beaches, including Anse Intendance, Anse Takamaka, and Anse Royale, all of which can be reached in less than ten minutes’ drive. The surroundings are ideal for snorkelling and diving, while activities such as fishing and hiking are also possible here. Finally, the island’s airport is around 13km (8 miles) away, and the capital is 23km (14 miles) away.

We had a great week staying with Maggie and Joe at Chalet Guava after touring La Digue for a few days. In the chalet itself everything was very clean and always nicely decorated with fresh flowers. The whole area is very well maintained and is located in the somewhat quieter, but all the more beautiful, south. In a few minutes by car you will find the most beautiful beaches on all of Mahe. Be sure to explore the island with a rental car - there are so many beautiful things and corners to discover! The two owners are super friendly and we were allowed to have exciting conversations. They shared exciting excursion tips with us and reported a lot about the island and its inhabitants - it was very impressive to get such insights. We felt very comfortable and would come back immediately. What could be nicer than sipping a coffee on your own terrace early in the morning and admiring the sunrise?! It is best to contact the owner before you travel (ask for an email address via SeyVillas). Maggie and Joe are also happy to answer any pre-stay questions. Let them know the time of arrival as well. Unfortunately, they also told us that some guests and tourists on the island behave badly - too bad! Appreciate this little paradise on earth and also be respectful and grateful to the locals - so many more travelers can explore and marvel at this wonderful island. We are already looking forward to the next time! Translation (DE): GoogleTranslate
The property itself is beautiful and well maintained. Nevertheless, we were quite disappointed with the service of the hostess and his husband/gardener. It started with the driveway onto the site, where Joe (the gardener) revealed his passive-aggressive attitude for the first time. We didn't quite understand how he wanted us to park and then got his first dirty looks. Then he said his wife would be coming to greet us, but his Swiss Maggie introduced him as her gardener. At first we thought nothing of it, but their racist attitude was soon clearly recognizable. To my husband, who is of Turkish origin, she said "I had no idea that you are not a real German" and in the next sentence she remarked that he was a really handsome Turk. She also pointed out to us where we hadn't really arrived yet, we would like to leave on time, because she was expecting new guests on our departure day. After my husband wanted to ask her a few questions about the area, she asked him to wait until tomorrow as she had something on the stove right now. Unfortunately, she wasn't even available for questions anymore, but we had lost interest anyway. When we were then about 10 minutes in the accommodation another unpleasant incident happened: we pulled down the shutters of our terrace to ensure privacy and activated the air conditioning. We forgot to close a window. As I said, it didn't even take 10 minutes for Joe's first inspection to take place. I was in the room at that moment and wanted to change. Joe called and I asked him to wait since I was changing. But Joe didn't wait and looked straight into our room around the shutters. An absolute cheek. Then he accused us of being polluters because we left the window open and the light was off. My husband then tried to talk to him and asked him never to look into our room again and to respect our privacy. Joe denied looking into our room and called me a liar. Maggie then joined the conversation and said we weren't the only people she would see naked here, remarking in the next sentence "You're Turkish, you'd better control your wife". As I said, an absolute cheek to be treated by hosts. After the incident we never saw Maggie again, she never once asked how we were, let alone said goodbye when we left. Joe watched us from time to time, silently, without saying anything. Really very very unfortunate and disappointing stay in this accommodation. I would advise anyone not to visit if you want to have a nice and relaxing holiday. And more importantly, people who exhibit such racist behavior should not be given a chance.
