2 Weeks on La Digue

The journey there

Our trip to the Seychelles was actually meant to begin on 10 December 2017. We drove to Munich, and the snowstorm there made us even more excited about soon being able to lie in the sunshine. Unfortunately, things did not quite go to plan. Our flight to Istanbul was cancelled because of the weather, and we had to spend the night at an airport hotel in Munich. We set off early the next morning and, this time, flew via Dubai to Mahé without any problems. Once we arrived, we packed away our down jackets and were welcomed by the friendly staff from Creole Travel Services, who took us by minibus to the port on Mahé. From there, we travelled with Cat Cocos to Praslin, then continued to La Digue on a smaller boat. After taking our luggage to our accommodation, Pension Fidele, we were able to hire bicycles from the owner straight away and set off on our first tour of the island.

Our stay

During the two weeks we spent on La Digue, we explored the entire island. We particularly loved Anse Source d'Argent. It is a wonderful place for snorkelling and swimming, and the unique rock formations make it a dream beach.

Grand Anse, La DigueGrand Anse, La Digue We then continued from Grand Anse through the jungle, passing Petite Anse on the way to Anse Cocos. This is another dream beach, where you hardly meet anyone and can truly relax in the shade of the coconut palms. Another highlight was our hike to the island’s most secluded beach, Anse Marron. It is definitely worth visiting for anyone with a sense of adventure.

The hike leads partly through the jungle, partly through the water and also over a few rocks. Once there, you can cool off in the natural pools formed by the beach. There were only a few shady spots, so we did not stay for too long. As we visited on a Sunday, there were also a few local people at Anse Marron. They were having a picnic, listening to music and enjoying themselves. We had to smile when we realised that even in such a remote place, Taylor Swift and company had followed us… ;-)

Anse Marron, La DigueAnse Marron, La Digue Our best experience in the Seychelles, however, was our snorkelling excursion aboard the Belle Petra. We were the only tourists on the boat that day. First, we snorkelled along the coast of the Sister Islands. We then continued by boat to Cocos Island. After visiting these two spots, we enjoyed a delicious barbecue on the beach at Félicité and, following a short break to digest our meal, went snorkelling along Félicité’s coast. We saw fish in all sorts of colours (red, green, blue, purple, yellow and multicoloured), and some were swimming in huge shoals of several hundred fish. A little later, we saw our first turtles and even one turtle carrying her eggs ashore. Small sharks and rays also swam past us, and we briefly found ourselves in a swarm of jellyfish, although they were harmless.

Snorkelling off La DigueSnorkelling off La Digue We were very lucky with the weather during our stay, with only two rainy days. This meant we could really enjoy our time and make the most of it. Our trip to the Seychelles was wonderful, and we would not hesitate for a second to fly back!
