The honeymoon every girl dreams of

After getting married in May this year, we were incredibly excited about our honeymoon in the Seychelles. Thanks to SeyVillas, planning and booking all the accommodation and transfers we needed in advance was exceptionally easy, so we could look forward to our honeymoon without any worries. On 5 July, the day finally arrived, and we flew to Mahé via Doha. When we landed at the impressive airport in Doha, we still had more than 5 hours of flying ahead of us before reaching Mahé.

Driving in the Seychelles is certainly a challenge. It is not only driving on the left that takes some getting used to; the narrow roads, some of which run right alongside steep drops, also require a great deal of concentration. The roads are incredibly steep, especially when heading into the island’s interior. We also had to tackle one or two steep climbs on our way to Albizia Lodge. The lodge is situated a little further inland, away from the tourist attractions and surrounded by beautiful nature. As it stands on slightly higher ground, we had a wonderful view of the Indian Ocean from our room.

Straight after arriving, we drove to Victoria. There, we visited the Victoria Clocktower, the Hindu Temple - Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar and the well-known Sir Selwyn Selwyn Clarke Market.

We drove from Albizia Lodge to the port in Victoria. From there, we took the ferry to La Digue, with a stopover on Praslin. Once there, we hired bicycles and cycled to Grand Anse .

On the third day, our transfer service collected us from Albizia Lodge and took us to the accommodation where we would spend the rest of our stay: Banyan Tree in the south-west of Mahé. During the drive, we were able to admire all of Mahé’s beauty: the mountains, the beaches, the people, the houses…

After a quick check-in, we settled into our villa, which was to be our home for the next 8 days. Situated directly on the hillside, it offered a wonderful view of Anse Intendance and the Indian Ocean with its impressive waves.

During our honeymoon at Banyan Tree , we were able to relax completely. Whether we were enjoying a Cocos Cookie cocktail beside the Blue Bar’s infinity pool, dining to the sound of the waves at Au Jardin D’Epice or simply watching the sunset from our villa’s infinity pool, everything was simply beautiful and unforgettable.

We booked it at reception a day in advance and were given a small barbecue, allowing us to grill our chosen meats on the terrace of our villa as the sun set. But that was not all! Our table was set up romantically, small lanterns were placed around us, and everything was decorated with flowers and petals.

We also visited the Wildlife Conservation and Rehabilitation Centre at Banyan Tree, where we learnt quite a bit about the tortoises living there, among other things.

We therefore walked from the entrance to Banyan Tree to Quatre Bornes. It was not a short walk, but the varied and fascinating natural surroundings, with all the plants and animals we could observe along the way, made the distance pass in no time. We even forgot about the steep climb.

We booked a taxi through Banyan Tree and travelled to Mission Lodge – unfortunately, in the rain. It would normally offer a magnificent view across the island. Sadly, we could not see very much and could only watch as the clouds slowly cleared, revealing small parts of the island. Although we could not enjoy the view across the island, our taxi driver did take us to see Sauzier Waterfall. It is a beautiful waterfall surrounded by rocks and stones amid Mahé’s lush greenery.

We know for certain that we want to return – and next time, we hope to discover and experience even more of the Seychelles’ beauty!
