Even Better Than the Photos! Our Honeymoon in the Seychelles.
Even Better Than the Photos! Our Honeymoon in the Seychelles.
On 22 July 2024, we set off on our honeymoon to the Seychelles. After an easy connection in Dubai, we landed on Mahé on 23 July. At the airport, we were met by a representative and escorted to the transfer bus for our ferry, as our first destination was Praslin. The transfer went smoothly. After a short wait, we were able to board the ferry to Praslin. We had already read a few frightening reports about rough seas and the resulting seasickness. We cannot confirm this, as our crossing was fairly calm. Nevertheless, we would recommend sitting on the upper deck and bringing travel sickness tablets.
On Praslin, we were met by a representative at the harbour and taken to our hire car. Shortly before sunset, we then headed to our first accommodation: the Colibri Guesthouse. Here too, we received a warm welcome and were offered a drink and some coconut on arrival. The Honeymoon Suite had a fantastic sea view. We could dine in the restaurant while looking out over the sea. Even as vegetarians, we had a wide choice at both breakfast and dinner. The staff were extremely friendly.
Our highlights on Praslin included a guided tour of Fond Ferdinand, a trip to see the tortoises on Curieuse, Anse Georgette
(please note that advance booking is required) and the buffet at Les Lauriers Restaurant (Les Lauriers Eco Hotel).
It is also well worth driving right across the island to experience the magnificent rainforest.
After 5 days on Praslin, we continued by ferry to La Digue. We were collected from the harbour and taken to our accommodation, the Calou Guesthouse. Here, we were again welcomed with fresh juice and snacks. Our local representative, Herkules, stopped by later and gave us all sorts of information about the island. We could also book excursions directly through him. Bicycles were available from the accommodation for an additional charge. Our modern room had been beautifully decorated with flowers, and fruit and sparkling wine were provided. The guesthouse is small and has a friendly, family-run atmosphere.
Our highlights on La Digue were Anse Patates, enjoying the sunsets at the Bikini Bottom Bar with a drink or a ‘Sweet and Sour Coconut’, the snorkelling excursion to the Sister Islands and Felicité, and the trip to Anse Pierrot.
The latter had originally been planned as just a 3-hour excursion in transparent kayaks. We were able to book it easily through our local representative, Herkules. Because of the high tide, we were first taken by motorboat from Anse Source d'Argent to Anse Pierrot, where we had the beach entirely to ourselves. Our guide then walked with us to two neighbouring coves before preparing a fruit platter for us. To finish, we paddled around in the kayaks. Altogether, we were out for more than 6 hours rather than 3 and had an unforgettable day, thanks to our enthusiastic guide.
After another 5 days on La Digue, we took the ferry to Mahé and then drove south in our hire car to our final accommodation: Bougainvillas Seychelles. Here too, we received a warm welcome. Breakfast could be ordered individually via WhatsApp each day. It was wonderful and was delivered directly to our spacious apartment with a sea view. So there was no buffet with other guests – everything was tailored to us! The accommodation was very modern, clean and well equipped.
Our highlights on Mahé were Petit Anse, Anse Soleil, the sunsets at Beau Vallon, and the Latin American music every evening at Trader Vic’s.
All in all, we spent a wonderful, relaxing and stress-free holiday in the Seychelles, with friendly people, delicious food and many unforgettable new experiences.
