Dream Holiday on Silhouette Island

We had spent a long time comparing, weighing up our options and searching, as we wanted dream beaches with an interior we could explore, offering more than just sand. In the end, we chose Silhouette Island…and our expectations were not disappointed in any way.

Our flight times were ideal (arrival early in the morning, departure in the evening), and the holiday began from the very first minute of the flight. The journey with Etihad and Air Seychelles went smoothly. The taxi we had booked took us to the “Hilton” jetty, and the boat crossing from Mahé to Silhouette Island was an experience in itself.

Once we arrived on Silhouette Island, the relaxation began: the 7 enchanted us from the outset and impressed us with its warmth, excellent service, superb and varied food, and very attentive staff. Other highlights included the beautifully maintained grounds, which blend perfectly into the landscape; the well-equipped gym (cardio equipment and free weights); the wonderful spa facilities (which we only looked around but did not use); the “crab station” (various harmless crabs of all sizes and colours roam freely around the grounds); and the perfect beach with natural shade.

We had a beachfront villa with direct access and a breathtaking view of the magnificent sea, where we could see rays and various colourful fish. It is worth wearing swimming shoes, as the seabed can become quite rocky after a few metres and injuries to your feet are possible. The kilometre-long beach is very quiet, there is always plenty of space, the restaurants are never overcrowded, and you always feel exceptionally well looked after and safe.

Half board is more than sufficient. Breakfast is generous and varied (fresh juices, sparkling wine, hot dishes, etc.), and the buffet restaurant, which has a different theme each day, always offers a wonderful sea view. In addition to the themed buffet restaurant, there are three other restaurants serving Korean, Italian and Creole cuisine. A table can be reserved at any time, subject to availability. None of the establishments we “tested” disappointed us; instead, they treated us to an array of culinary delights. The service was outstanding here too!

There were plenty of sporting activities available (tennis, pétanque, a gym, etc.), although very few guests made use of them. Outside the resort, there is a German-run diving centre where various excursions could be booked. We hired a kayak there, bounced over the waves and explored a little of the landscape from a different perspective. The resort offers various guided walks. We went on three excursions of varying difficulty into the island’s interior…through untouched rainforest to reach secluded beaches. The natural surroundings are fascinating and the trails adventurous, with the chance to see animals such as flying foxes, giant millipedes, various birds, spiders and geckos. Along the way, you are rewarded with indescribably beautiful views.

And we found them…magnificent, quintessential Seychelles beaches straight out of a picture book: secluded, wild and simply paradise!

This island is ideal for anyone seeking peace and quiet, nature lovers, couples, romantics, adventurers and connoisseurs of the good things in life. Snobs, party animals and show-offs are completely out of place here…Silhouette Island is about something more…about “depth”!

We were captivated by every moment we spent on this island and intend to return to relax and enjoy it again in no more than 25 years…at the latest!
