Elisa, Lorenzo and Ginevra Explore La Digue

As soon as we arrived at Mahé airport, we were welcomed by the SeyVillas team, and after an exhausting journey, the sense of reassurance and peace of mind was second to none! We took the ferry, which quickly brought us to the island of La Digue. Once there, the team ‘picked us up’ at the harbour and took us to the hotel.

We had decided to stay at Le Relax Beach House, a small hotel with just 4 rooms, right beside a beautiful pink-sand beach. The hotel was very clean, and the staff were polite and happy to help with our requests. We hired bicycles straight away so that we could explore the island.

On our first evening, we had dinner at the hotel. The food was good and we did not spend much, unlike at the other restaurants, which were quite expensive. I strongly recommend the takeaways, which serve decent and fairly varied food (including excellent smoked fish salads) at very low prices (around 300 rupees for a complete dinner for 3 people).

As for places to visit, they are all wonderful. The beach at Anse Source d'Argent is magnificent, a jewel of rare beauty, both for its crystal-clear water and the stunning jungle behind it. The water is wonderfully warm, and there are beautiful fish that swim up to the shore to eat pieces of bread from your hand and even let you stroke them. In the afternoon, the sea becomes slightly choppy and the water loses some of its clarity, before becoming clear again at around 18:00, just as you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets.

The beaches at Anse Severe and Anse Caïman are also beautiful and not very busy, and they are easy to reach by bicycle. Here too, you can find little stalls selling delicious fruit platters and excellent smoothies.

The roads are suitable for cycling and pass through pockets of forest where you can admire various species of birds and giant tortoises roaming freely. Scents, flowers, palm trees and animals define these timeless places, where the sun sets incredibly quickly and the forest comes alive with animals flying and singing, making everything feel even more special.

One important thing is to protect your skin: low-factor sun cream is not enough. As we say in Tuscany, ‘the sun beats down, and it beats down hard!’ It is also worth bringing some mosquito repellent, although mosquitoes are only found in the forest and are rare in the village.

I strongly recommend this kind of trip to everyone … and booking through SeyVillas, because the organisation really is excellent and precise!
