My 40th birthday present!!

For my 40th birthday, I wanted to treat myself to something special, and as I love travelling, there could only be one choice. I also wanted it to be an important, memorable trip to one of those dream islands with crystal-clear water and palm trees on the beach. And that is exactly what my trip to the Seychelles was like. Wonderful.

I discovered SeyVillas rather by chance, and thanks to them I managed to organise everything perfectly. I chose the islands I wanted to visit and the hotels where I wanted to stay, and by also purchasing the transfer package, everything went incredibly smoothly! From the welcome at the airport when we arrived right through to our departure, everything went according to plan, which made the whole holiday even more relaxing.

A holiday in the Seychelles is something I hope everyone gets to experience at least once in their lifetime. The islands are truly unforgettable. We spent 3 nights on La Digue and 4 nights on Mahé.

La Digue

When we arrived on La Digue, we were taken to our guesthouse, La Kaz Safran. We had a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the sea. We hired bicycles for around €10 per day and set off to explore every corner of this wonderful island. La Digue is heaven on earth: a dream of indescribably beautiful beaches, exotic fruit everywhere, palm trees, giant tortoises and excellent fresh fish. The island’s beauty lies in its natural surroundings and the almost complete absence of cars, making it perfect for a dream holiday.

We were able to go snorkelling and swim among countless fish in every colour imaginable. This is an experience not to be missed, and I recommend the little beach just beyond the island’s small, picturesque cemetery. You can also admire a beautiful sunset from this beach.

The beaches of Anse Source d'Argent and Grand Anse are not to be missed. To reach the latter, there is a fairly steep climb followed by a long descent, but it is absolutely worth it when you arrive.

And what can I say about the people lucky enough to live here all year round? They are incredibly kind, always happy to help visitors and even to have their photograph taken with them!

Although we had chosen not to stay on Praslin, we still wanted to visit, and it was very easy thanks to the ferries, which take just 15 minutes to get there. On arriving at the port, you can take one of the island’s buses, which will take you almost anywhere for less than €0.40. We chose to visit Anse Volbert (Cote d'Or), an endless beach of fine sand and palm trees that will remain in my heart forever!

Both La Digue and Praslin also have plenty of fishermen selling excellent, exceptionally fresh fish every day. Those who choose a self-catering holiday and stay in a rented apartment can save a great deal of money while still eating very well. For anyone who does not feel like cooking but would still like to save money, there are takeaway establishments everywhere serving delicious Creole dishes for just a few euros. I particularly enjoyed the food at My Mummy on La Digue. You can also enjoy an excellent buffet at Zerof Restaurant, especially on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. The owner’s father really is the king of the grill!!!!

Mahé

After 3 nights on La Digue, we left for Mahé, where we stayed at the beautiful Villa Dorado. It is a guesthouse right on the beach. This is the ideal place for anyone seeking peace and quiet, but hiring a car or using the buses, which are very inexpensive, is essential for getting around.

We devoted an afternoon to visiting the capital, Victoria. The famous market was beautiful and colourful. It is an absolute must, whether you want to buy fish, fruit and spices, including the famous vanilla, or simply do a little shopping.

During our stay on Mahé, we also took a day trip by catamaran. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves the sea!! For €115 per person, we spent a wonderful day enjoying an excellent lunch and visiting dream beaches, including the one on the tiny island of Moyenne. The trip also included an excursion on the island itself. The beach was so beautiful that no photograph or account could ever truly capture it.

For our final day, we relied on the experience of a private driver, who took us to Mahé’s best beaches over the course of 7 hours.

How can I conclude my story? The Seychelles truly are fabulous islands: the people are welcoming, the fish is delicious wherever you eat it, the natural surroundings are unspoilt and the sea is magnificent. If I had to choose between the different islands, I would say that La Digue was my favourite. SeyVillas organised everything perfectly, and that was another reason why the holiday was such a success.

Do not hesitate: treat yourselves to this experience at least once!

See you again soon, Seychelles!
