Robinson Crusoe Excursion to Curieuse

On our third day in the Seychelles on Praslin, we set off on an unforgettable day trip straight after breakfast. The operator’s taxi took us to the ferry jetty, where we boarded a large catamaran at around 9.30 am for the Robinson Crusoe Excursion. Full of anticipation, we headed first to the tiny island of St Pierre, just off Praslin, accompanied by around 50 fellow passengers, most of them middle-aged, and a crew of nearly 10.

St. PierreSt. Pierre We had 30 minutes to enter the water from the stern and leisurely explore the coral reef and the fish swimming around it using the snorkelling equipment provided. The variety of fish may not be as great as at some beaches on La Digue, but it is still impressive for inexperienced snorkellers.

At around midday, we continued in four groups by dinghy to the main attraction: the giant tortoise population on Curieuse, which you can get remarkably close to. The local guide tells each small group all about the tortoises, and you can feed them and even hold baby tortoises. There is also a short talk about the Coco de Mer.

Curieuse, tortoiseCurieuse, tortoise You then explore another part of Curieuse on a trail lasting around 1 hour, learning about the island’s plants and the inhabitants you encounter along the way.

The package includes an excellent lunch with grilled specialities. Three drinks are also included in the excursion price of €125, so there are no additional costs. While we were eating, the unfailingly friendly crew made their way almost unnoticed towards the next highlight. The catamaran anchors off what we consider the most beautiful beach in the Seychelles, Anse Georgette. The dinghy does not take you directly ashore, but you have a full hour here and can swim across in around two minutes to make the most of its exceptionally fine white sand.

So the trip is also wonderfully relaxing. After the hotel transfer, which is included as well, we arrived back at our hotel at around 5.30 pm, full of wonderful impressions. It was a superbly organised and wonderfully varied excursion offering excellent value for money, and one we would happily book again on our next visit to the Seychelles.

The trip is also available from La Digue at a lower price.
