‘Welcome to paradise’ were the first words we heard from the pilot after landing on the beautiful island of Mahé.
Our family holiday began with our very first glimpse out of the aeroplane window as we came in to land. The view before us was simply breathtaking. Bright blue water sparkled below, and we could already make out the long white beaches of the various islands.
Full of anticipation, we received a very warm welcome upon arrival. Our transfer took us to our hotel in Baie Lazare, around half an hour away. After the long journey, we spent the first few days at the Kempinski Seychelles Resort Baie Lazare, relaxing on the beach with a delicious cocktail. It was simply beautiful... It truly was paradise.

After a while, however, our sense of adventure and desire to explore took over. A tour to Moyenne Island seemed perfect. We travelled to the island by catamaran and then by inflatable boat. Once there, we set off to explore in amazement. There were old pirate graves, mysterious myths and a hiking trail with spectacular scenery and plenty to discover. Just when you think it could not get any better – it does! We were not alone on the island. Tortoises! These beautiful island giants could be admired around every corner. It was an incredible experience. Later, our trip ended with an interesting snorkelling tour just off the island.

For the next two days, we decided to hire a car and explore as much as possible on our own. Our first stop was Victoria, the smallest capital city in the world. It is certainly a must-see when visiting Mahé. A small city unlike anywhere else, with a charm all of its own.
We admired the Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market. With a freshly opened coconut in hand, we walked to St Paul’s Cathedral, visited the Clock Tower and ended our tour at Kenwyn House. On the way home, we also stopped in the misty mountains. The views from there are simply fascinating.

The next day, we simply set off without a particular plan. The first place we stopped was Anse Soleil. It is a beautiful beach and certainly well worth a visit. We spent plenty of time snorkelling there and admiring the lovely underwater world.

After a rather long drive exploring the island, we ended our adventure at Beau Vallon.

Once again, we were captivated by this paradise. We sat on the warm sand and felt the final rays of the day’s sunshine on our skin.
We spent the following days back at our lovely hotel. The final highlight of our trip was a scenic helicopter flight over the island of Mahé. The view from above took our breath away for a moment. We could now appreciate the island’s diverse beauty in all its splendour. We will never forget that sight, and it reminded us once again just how beautiful the Seychelles are.

A few days later, we left the island with heavy hearts and began our flight home.
The Seychelles. Paradise on earth.
I look back with joy, knowing that we will return.
