Summer Holidays in the Seychelles

We spent our summer holiday in the Seychelles this year. While browsing online, we came across SeyVillas. Pleasantly surprised by their quick service and expertise, we decided to book our Seychelles island-hopping trip through the agency.

After landing on Mahé, we were promptly met by a friendly member of the Creole Travel Services team. From the harbour, we took a speedboat to Cerf Island.

Cerf

Cerf Island was the first stop on our trip, and we were excited to see our beachfront villa (Takamaka Beach Villas). We were not disappointed. The beachfront villa has a lovely terrace, spacious rooms and a swimming pool. The garden and pool are shared with guests staying in the other villa. As it was unoccupied during our stay, we had the entire property to ourselves. On request, the pool attendant brought us freshly opened coconuts. There are no supermarkets on the island, so we took the next shuttle boat back to Mahé, where we were able to do our shopping at a modern supermarket. As everything is imported into the Seychelles, the selection was a little disappointing, as we had expected an abundance of fruit and vegetables. The prices reflected this too.

In the evening, we enjoyed the sunset with a chilled glass of wine on our private beach.

What we had read about seaweed in the water turned out to be true. So the next day, we set off across the mountain and through the jungle to the other side of the island. There was no seaweed there, and we were able to enjoy a wonderful swim and the peaceful solitude.

Praslin

The next stop on our trip was the beautiful island of Praslin. The rough seas left many passengers feeling seasick, but the Cat Cocos crew looked after everyone with great care.

When we arrived at the harbour, we were collected by an acquaintance of the property owner. Praslin is completely different from Cerf. It is also the second-largest island in the Seychelles. Each island has its own distinct tropical vegetation. After the steep drive up to Maison du Soleil, we were rewarded with a breathtaking view. The villa itself is showing its age a little, but everything worked. We were all delighted with the beautiful location.

Vincent, the owner, has a collection of the famous Seychelles coconut, the ‘Coco de Mer’, which visitors can admire in his garden. After we asked where we could buy fruit and vegetables, he brought us star fruit, avocados, mangoes and more from his garden. We enjoyed them on the wonderful terrace.

Our jeep took us to the island’s picture-perfect beaches, and we explored the other sights. Our villa was very close to the stunning Anse Lazio.

We also took a day trip by motorboat, during which we snorkelled around magnificent coral reefs. It was like swimming in a huge aquarium. We also stopped on Curieuse Island, where we visited the giant tortoises resting beneath the palm trees.

La Digue

After Praslin, our trip continued to La Digue. The island is easy to explore at a leisurely pace by bicycle. It was great fun, with plenty of cycling up and down hills. Here, too, we had rented a villa, which was situated in a residential area. This allowed us to experience island life. We cycled to all the beaches. Our favourites were the unspoilt Petite Anse and Anse Cocos. Unfortunately, it was not possible to swim because the waves were too strong. Another excursion took us up Nid d’Aigle mountain. It is very steep, but the effort was worthwhile. La Digue is a very peaceful and romantic island.

Mahé

Our final stop was the main island of Mahé. We explored the island in a hire car, which we had also booked through SeyVillas. We stayed in a wonderful apartment, Sables d'Or, owned by Vicky, who looked after us exceptionally well.

We spent the final days of our trip enjoying the magnificent beach directly in front of the apartment.

We would love to return.

We would always recommend island hopping, as it allows you to discover the diversity of the islands. Everything went perfectly.
