In February this year, we were lucky enough to spend another 10 wonderful days in the Seychelles. As we had such a positive experience with SeyVillas last year, we booked with them again this year. This time, we spent 5 days on La Digue and 5 days on Mahé.
La Digue
After a pleasant flight with Condor, we headed straight for the ferry to La Digue, an island that had captured our hearts during our last holiday. If you are looking to escape the stresses of everyday life and slow down, this is exactly the right place. The main form of transport is the bicycle, which you can use to reach all the island’s dream beaches – and there are plenty of them.
We stayed at the Chateau Saint Cloud
, one of the few proper hotels on La Digue.By the pool at Hotel Chateau St. Cloud
The rooms were very clean, the breakfast left nothing to be desired (pancakes, bread rolls, fruit, coffee, tea, juices, eggs, etc.), and it was very quiet and pleasant. We hired bicycles directly from the hotel. On the first day, we cycled to the north of the island and then east as far as Anse Fourmis, treated ourselves to delicious fruit juices at ‘Chez Jules’ near Anse Banane (definitely stop by!) and photographed giant tortoises crossing our path. On the second day, we headed to Grand Anse in the south-east of the island for a day at the beach. Every time you come here, you feel like Robinson Crusoe. At Grand Anse
Turquoise water, white sand, green palm trees and silvery granite rocks – exactly how you imagine the Seychelles.
Our absolute highlight was the boat trip with Cliff (Jonathan’s brother; we booked the excursion in advance through SeyVillas). First, we went to the Sister Islands for some snorkelling, followed by Coco Island. This is an absolute snorkelling paradise. The water was crystal-clear, and we saw turtles, humphead wrasse and sharks. To round off the day, we enjoyed a delicious barbecue right on the beach on Félicité. The perfect day! We spent the rest of our time on La Digue visiting the various beaches. A little restaurant tip: make sure you visit the Zerof Restaurant
! Every other day, the very friendly owners put on a traditional Creole barbecue that will leave you licking your fingers!BBQ at the Zerof HotelBBQ at the Zerof HotelMahé
As always, saying goodbye to La Digue was not easy! Nevertheless, we were looking forward to our 5 days on Mahé. Unfortunately, we did not have the chance to explore the island last year, so we definitely wanted to make up for that this time. We chose to stay at the Crown Beach Hotel. The rooms were very clean and beautifully furnished, the staff were incredibly friendly, the breakfast was excellent (once again, nothing was missing), and the hotel has its own beach. On the third day, we travelled by catamaran to the Sainte Anne Marine National Park. The excursion was organised by Creole Travel Services, and we had also booked it in advance through SeyVillas. We visited Moyenne Island
, a protected island with breathtaking, deserted beaches, then stopped for some snorkelling and enjoyed a barbecue on board. Moyenne Island
It was a really lovely excursion. Hiring a car on Mahé is definitely worthwhile! The roads are quite an adventure, but it is the best way to explore the island. We drove around the south and west of the island and along Sans Soucis Road. There are beautiful spots everywhere where you can stop and enjoy the view. Mission Lodge offers a fantastic view across the island. Road trip around MahéView from Mission Lodge
Just like in 2017, this holiday will remain unforgettable!
