Island Hopping – Touring & Diving

We regularly find ourselves longing to travel, which always raises the question: where to? As we are both divers, it makes sense to choose a destination that also offers good diving opportunities – but we did not want to simply stay in one hotel and spend the entire time lying on the beach; we wanted some variety too. That is how we discovered island hopping in the Seychelles and, in turn, SeyVillas. The advice and selection available on the website are exemplary and presented in a very appealing way. You clearly benefit from their local knowledge and can rely on the information provided. We ultimately put together and booked our package for a 14-day holiday.

Off to the islands

We fly from Düsseldorf via Abu Dhabi to Mahé, then continue directly by ferry to Praslin. On arrival, we are met by Creole Travel Service, and both the transfer and the assistance throughout our stay go smoothly. The recommended Hotel "Acajou Beach Resort" and the apartment we stay in are in excellent condition and perfect for the start of our island-hopping adventure. We explore Praslin on foot, by bicycle and by car.

An absolute dream beach

The scenery and beaches in the immediate vicinity of the hotel are already stunning, but hiring a car allows us to visit what is, for us, one of the most beautiful beaches of all: Anse Georgette. After a straightforward registration at the entrance to the 5-star golf resort, the path takes us past the golf course and through the impressive grounds towards the beach. By the time we arrive, the words ‘dream beach’ inevitably spring to mind, and the Seychelles fully live up to their reputation for having several beaches in this category. It is the perfect place to spend some peaceful hours enjoying the sun, sand and sea. (Important: do not forget to bring water!)

Relaxing on La Digue

On day 5, we continue from Praslin to La Digue. After a short transfer, we reach our hotel, Hotel Patatran, in the north of the small island. Small bungalows and rooms overlooking the sea, combined with the tranquillity created by the minimal traffic, allow us to relax completely.

On La Digue, everyone travels by bicycle. It is the perfect way to explore the whole island, visit different beaches or meet up with new acquaintances for a meal. The island’s laid-back, peaceful atmosphere is wonderfully calming, and although it is the smallest island, there is plenty to see and do. We would happily have stayed a little longer. Naturally, the sights include Anse Source d’Argent, the most famous beach in the Seychelles. It is well worth walking all the way to the far end and enjoying a fresh juice made from exotic fruit at one of the two bars.

Our highlight on La Digue

The absolute highlight, however, is not one of the many dream beaches, but a guided tour around the south of the island. We set off near Grand Anse and make our way through the jungle, over and through the rocks along the coast, until we reach Anse Source d’Argent. The route takes us past rugged cliffs and the most secluded beaches, with plenty of climbing along the way. Any tension soon disappears during our lunch break in a deserted bay, complete with lunch and a swim. After one final refreshment – coconuts freshly picked by our guide – and a few metres wading through the water to our destination, one thing is certain: this is the highlight of the trip – pure nature, adrenaline and relaxation. (Be sure to go with a guide and do not attempt it on your own!)

Diving and the sea

We spend the final few days on Mahé – our cycling days are over, and we switch to a hire car instead, which we would thoroughly recommend. We explore the local area and the entire island, but focus more on diving. From our accommodation, Glacis Heights Villa, where we are welcomed by our friendly hosts, we set off on our daily adventures each morning after a lovingly prepared, fresh breakfast.

Together with some new friends, we visit several of the island’s dive sites – always on the lookout for colourful fish, rays and sharks. Unfortunately, we have little luck and encounter only a few unusual sea creatures – but seeing a turtle right in front of you is certainly a wonderful experience. With the water at a warm 28°C, it is even possible to dive without an insulating wetsuit, making for a wonderfully relaxed and liberating way to experience the underwater world.

We can recommend both the Seychelles and booking through SeyVillas to anyone who would like to experience paradise. The breathtaking beaches, fascinating rock formations and natural beauty are well worth the visit!
