Dream Holiday on La Digue

In May 2018, we spent 10 wonderful days on La Digue. We deliberately chose to stay on this island alone, as it is said to be the most beautiful of the three main islands, and we wanted to explore it all the more thoroughly.

Even before our departure, everything went smoothly with SeyVillas! Thanks to the clear website, booking was quick and straightforward. Each person can also pay separately by credit card, which cannot be taken for granted with every tour operator. Our emails were answered quickly and courteously, and we were even alerted to a better flight. The transfers between the airport, ferry and hotel went without a hitch. The entire team was always friendly. I would book with SeyVillas again in a heartbeat, as this travel company simply makes you feel understood and in safe hands. Excellent value for money! Although the island is so small, at around 9 km², the time flew by, and we could happily have stayed on La Digue for much longer.

About La Digue

La Digue itself is simply heavenly! Everyone explores the island by bicycle, which immediately gives you a completely different outlook on life. Everything is so relaxed and far removed from everyday worries! The island offers beautiful and incredibly varied beaches with crystal-clear water. You definitely must not miss Anse Cocos! Powder-fine sand, impressive waves, every imaginable shade of blue in the sea and a natural pool make this beach, which is accessible only on foot, absolutely perfect!

The island is very hilly and densely covered in lush green vegetation. A feast for the eyes! Anyone who enjoys snorkelling can also do so on La Digue. At Anse Source d'Argent, even the ‘cheeky’ butterflyfish wait to be fed!

We had never met such friendly tourists as we did in the Seychelles. Because the island is so small, we kept bumping into one another by chance. As a result, you quickly begin to feel at home on the island. The local men also pleasantly surprised us! They were always friendly, cheerful and open to a bit of small talk, without any ulterior motives or pushiness whatsoever! It is also commendable that the Seychelles has understood the importance of protecting and preserving nature and wildlife! Many countries should take the Seychelles as an example. Here, people still manage to live together peacefully, without war or terror.

Our highlights:

Our highlights were definitely the hike to Anse Coco, the adventurous guided hike around the south coast to Anse Marron with a local guide from Sunny Trail Guide, L'Union Estate with its many palm trees and the impressive Anse Source d'Argent beach, as well as our visit to Fond Ferdinand on the neighbouring island of Praslin, where we had the chance to learn more about the famous Coco de Mer.

Of course, the world-famous Anse Source d'Argent is a must-see! The granite rock formations are truly unique and incredibly impressive!

Anse Source d'ArgentAnse Source d'Argent I would particularly recommend the adventure tour to Anse Marron to anyone who is reasonably fit and would like to discover a different side of the island. You hike through La Digue’s tropical forests, climb over rocks, squeeze through narrow crevices, wade through knee-deep water and follow barely visible, densely overgrown paths, while also learning how to open coconuts. The destination is the beautiful and secluded Anse Marron, with its natural pool. The excursion takes around 6 hours. Without a guide, the route is too dangerous and not feasible.

Le Repaire Boutique HotelLe Repaire Boutique Hotel We were genuinely delighted with this Italian-run hotel! It already looks very appealing in the photos on SeyVillas, but in person it is even more beautiful and well maintained. The garden is wonderfully green, the rooms are clean and beautifully furnished, the beach is lovely too, and the reception staff are exceptionally friendly! The evening meals were delicious! There were steaks, risotto, pizzas, salads, fish dishes, a wide variety of pasta dishes and delicious desserts.

What we had not expected:

There are many stray dogs in the Seychelles. However, I had never encountered dogs like these anywhere before. The dogs on La Digue look very well cared for and are certainly not underweight. They are also extremely well behaved and do not bark. They enjoy joining tourists and quietly following them around. They relax in the shade on the beach, enjoy eating coconuts and fish, and go for a swim in the sea. Although we are usually afraid of dogs, we quickly became friends with the dogs of La Digue, and some of them even found a special place in our hearts.

what a dog’s life...what a dog’s life... All in all, we had a wonderful, varied and unforgettable holiday on La Digue! There was absolutely nothing to complain about! We would be delighted to visit this paradise with SeyVillas again one day! Thank you, SeyVillas!
