An Unforgettable Dream Holiday

While searching for a new holiday destination, we came across the Seychelles and SeyVillas and were captivated from the outset, not least by Ralf’s videos. We knew we simply had to spend our dream holiday there.

We booked a 14-day island-hopping trip covering three islands and visited and explored La Digue, Praslin and Mahé.

We took the ferries straight to our first island, La Digue, where we stayed at Pension Michel. It was such a lovely, welcoming guest house, from the homemade jam at breakfast to the fresh flowers placed in our room every day.

Stunning sunsets, a snorkelling trip, gorgeous beaches all around the island that can be explored entirely by bicycle, juice bars and free-roaming tortoises – one lasting memory was the mighty granite rocks at Anse Source d'Argent. You reach the beach after a delightful walk or cycle through the open-air museum L'Union Estate , where you can watch coconuts being processed, from harvesting to the traditional production of coconut oil. You can also see plenty of vanilla plants there.

We then continued to Praslin, where we hired a car and drove around the island to see as much as possible. One of our personal highlights was Fond Ferdinand, which we explored with a guide. We learnt a great deal about the Coco de Mer and all the other plants, trees and palms growing in the lush tropical forest. After climbing 600 steps, at the end of the guided tour you are rewarded with a beautiful view from high above across the Seychelles’ island landscape.

Anse Lazio was another of our unforgettable destinations, and we made sure to visit the recommended Coco Rouge Take Away & Cafeteria. From 17.30, alongside the daily takeaway dishes, they serve freshly caught fish of the day cooked on the grill – delicious.

We spent our final 5 days on Mahé. You can explore the entire island by public bus for just a few rupees and use them to reach all the sights and attractions. It is a real experience, and one we thoroughly enjoyed.

Victoria’s streets are full of life, and the colourful Sir Selwyn Selwyn Clarke Market is certainly worth exploring.

Not far from the market is the Hindu temple, which can be visited at certain times. Inside, you feel as though you have entered another world and can witness the rituals performed there, even during the hours when it is open to the public.

You should also make sure to visit the many small shops, most of which are run by Indians, and try the delicious samosas sold almost everywhere there – small pastry parcels filled with vegetables, fish or poultry. After discovering them, we did not go a single day without having one.

Peace and tranquillity can be found on all the beautiful and wonderfully varied beaches, which invite you to swim, snorkel and sunbathe. There is always something different happening. One moment, preparations are under way for a wedding; the next, you can watch local people hunting octopus with spears, diving masks and fins, and then see their successful catch up close. Above all, though, you should savour every moment you are able to spend in this paradise.

For us, it was a wonderfully unforgettable time amidst fascinating tropical vegetation in the Indian Ocean. It is an experience we will never forget, which we hope to repeat one day and will carry in our hearts for ever. Thank you.
