Good Morning, Sunshine

A true tropical paradise... crystal-clear turquoise water, powder-soft sand, rock formations among the palms and a sky that feels close enough to touch...

We, Christina and Daniel, spent 2 wonderful weeks in the Seychelles.

After arriving on Mahé in glorious sunshine and tropical warmth, we waited briefly before taking the ferry to our first dream island: Praslin. Having travelled from chilly Germany, all we wanted at first was to feel the sun on our skin, so we quickly shed our warm clothes. After the sun’s rays woke us, we made our way to the bus stop, excited to experience travelling by bus.

Adventurous bus journey on PraslinAdventurous bus journey on Praslin We had been advised to arrive 10 minutes early, as experience had shown that the timetable was not always followed too closely. Sometimes this meant waiting an hour for the bus. The journey itself more than made up for it, with wonderful views and the chance to travel among the locals. At just 7 rupees/€0.50, the bus was also very inexpensive and could take you around almost the entire island.

Our first impressions of Anse Lazio confirmed everything we had imagined. It was a beautiful beach that was simply made for photography. Armed with drinks and snacks, we spent plenty of time in the shade of the palms. Our highlight on Praslin was Anse Georgette. It was so uniquely beautiful that we were left speechless as soon as we arrived. Even before entering the water, we noticed the incredibly velvety sand and could trace our footprints along the beach.

We felt very comfortable throughout our stay at Chez Bea Villa, and the small Indian supermarkets stocked all the essentials we needed for self-catering.

The time passed so quickly, and after a short ferry transfer we arrived on La Digue. Eager to discover what awaited us, we fell in love with the island from the very first moment... Cycling through the jungle on your own? Dream beaches almost entirely to yourself? Sunsets included? Self-catering was also easy, thanks to the excellent selection of supermarkets and takeaways. We collected bicycles from our accommodation, La Digue Self Catering, and set off. On the way to Grand Anse, we encountered chickens, cattle and tortoises, as well as fantastic views and much more.

Typical La DigueTypical La Digue La Digue may not have any large mountains, but its hills should not be underestimated. Once we reached Grand Anse, we followed a small path to Petite Anse and Anse Cocos. Personally, we liked the almost deserted Petite Anse best.

Petite Anse, La DiguePetite Anse, La Digue We found shade beneath palm-frond ‘tents’ built by locals, which we could use if we bought a coconut or some delicious fresh fruit. The national park and Anse Source d'Argent, located within it, are also well worth visiting. With its spectacular scenery, the beach attracts many visitors stopping to take photographs and go snorkelling. Those seeking peace and quiet, or somewhere to linger, will find better options in the south-east. Unfortunately, our time on La Digue passed far too quickly, and it was with heavy hearts that we left this unspoilt paradise. We therefore recommend spending several days on La Digue rather than planning it as merely a day trip. Looking back, La Digue was the island we liked best.

Anse Source d'ArgentAnse Source d'Argent Back on the main island of Mahé, we enjoyed our final few days. We hired a car to explore the largest island, as there were still a few places we wanted to visit. These included Victoria, the world’s smallest capital, where a visit to Sir Selwyn Selwyn Clarke Market is an absolute must. It was incredible how many unfamiliar scents and fruits there were to discover.

Sunset on MahéSunset on Mahé The viewpoint at the summit of Morne Blanc also held a special appeal for us. After breakfast, we set off by car. We found it straight away and excitedly began the trail through the heart of the jungle. After a good half-hour’s climb through the greenery, we reached the viewing platform. Unfortunately, it was a little misty, but we still had a wonderful view.
