Island Hopping and Honeymooning in the Seychelles

We flew from Frankfurt to the Seychelles with Emirates, with a short stopover in Dubai. We began our honeymoon on the island of La Digue.

Here, we booked the ground-floor apartment ‘Kaz Takamaka’ at Domaine Les Rochers for 5 days. In short, it was a dream! We were welcomed by incredibly friendly hosts, and I have rarely stayed in such a high-quality, modern and clean apartment while on holiday. The garden is beautifully maintained, and you can truly feel at one with nature here.

There is a small supermarket just around the corner, and restaurants are also within easy walking distance. For complete relaxation, we really cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough.

As bicycles are the main form of transport on La Digue, we immediately felt at home on the island. The air is noticeably cleaner than what we are used to in other countries and cities, and travelling this way naturally makes it much easier to get from A to B. We therefore each hired a bicycle for our entire stay. Over the following days, we cycled around virtually the whole island.

One day, we chose Petite Anse beach in the south-east as our destination. The first beach you reach by bicycle is Grand Anse , which is by far the most beautiful long stretch of beach I have ever seen in my life.

Highly motivated, we then set off like Robinson Crusoe through the jungle in search of the hidden Petite Anse. After 20–40 minutes, however, we gave up the search and returned to the starting point, as we were fairly certain we had taken the wrong path.

Quite close to the start, we found several other people searching for the way. They told us that we were apparently not the only ones who had first ventured into the jungle before taking the hidden, much shorter path. With their help, we finally found the long-awaited Petite Anse. However, we did not see our detour into the forest as a negative experience at all. As nature lovers, we thoroughly enjoyed our little excursion into the jungle.

We were absolutely delighted by La Digue. The beaches, underwater world, forests and delicious food are certainly worth the journey. When we checked in for the ferry to Praslin, we both agreed that we would definitely return to this beautiful corner of the world one day.

On Praslin, we devoted even more time to exploring the underwater world. We booked a total of 2 snorkelling trips: one to Coco Island and Félicité, and another to Curieuse (Curieuse Marine National Park) and St Pierre. Anyone who enjoys snorkelling should go on these excursions. The variety and sheer number of fish were absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately, we did not spot any turtles in the water, but on Curieuse we were able to meet, stroke and admire a large number of giant tortoises.

Next, we are heading to Mahé. But we can already say that the Seychelles are an absolute dream. From small coves to long beaches with crystal-clear turquoise water, a fascinating underwater world, friendly wildlife and a truly special way of life, there are so many reasons to visit.
