A Dream Holiday, Complete with a Beach Proposal

The Seychelles had always been a dream destination for Lukas and me.

When planning our trip, we decided to go island hopping, starting with 5 nights on Praslin. We then continued to La Digue, where we stayed for another 5 nights, before spending our final 4 nights on Mahé.

Praslin

As soon as you step out of the airport on Mahé, you are greeted by a wall of mountains, palm trees and other lush vegetation. Having only just woken up, it felt like a dream to me.

We then took the transfer booked through SeyVillas to the harbour, followed by the ferry to Praslin. Still exhausted from the journey, I unfortunately slept through some of the boat trip and only really began enjoying the scenery again when we arrived on Praslin. It feels as though you are travelling through the depths of the jungle.

Once we had arrived at our first accommodation, we had an afternoon nap before heading to the beach, which began right in the garden of our accommodation. We then took a dip in the pool and, that evening, tried a takeaway for the first time, which was delicious. The next day, we hiked through Vallée de Mai, which we felt was perfectly manageable without a guide.

A visit to the beach after sunset is also highly recommended, as the starry sky is beautiful. The sudden change in weather from Germany meant that the walk across the golf course to Anse Georgette was quite tiring for us the next day. However, it was well worth it. Anse Georgette was our favourite beach on Praslin.

During our first snorkelling trip there, we saw lots of colourful fish and rays. Later, we spotted 2 small blacktip reef sharks swimming just in front of the breaking waves on the beach. Fortunately, they were both still young and only just under a metre long.

On our 4th day on Praslin, I bought myself a black pearl as a special keepsake from this wonderful holiday. Afterwards, we took the bus around the island to Anse Lazio. On our final day on Praslin, we relaxed once more at Anse Georgette, where we even saw another small lemon shark, also around a metre long. We used the buses throughout our time on Praslin and were very pleased with them. There was only one occasion when a bus arrived around 30 minutes late.

La Digue

After a relaxing day, we set off early on the morning of our sixth day for Anse Source d'Argent.

At around 7.00 am, we walked through the park directly to the beach and took a few photos. Because it was so early, we had the entire place to ourselves.

The only downside was that the sun remained behind the mountains until 8.30 am, so the water was not yet lit by the sunlight. After we had walked all the way along the beach, Lukas proposed to me, which I had not been expecting at all. Once the initial excitement had settled and we had taken more photos for our family and friends, we made our way back. On the way, we strolled through the park, fed our first giant tortoises, scratched their necks and spent some time looking around the museum.

On day 8, we hopped on our bicycles, which were unfortunately all a little small, and set off for Grand Anse. Once we arrived at Grand Anse, we continued to Petite Anse and Anse Cocos. We found the route very strenuous, but in our opinion, this excursion is an essential part of any holiday in the Seychelles. After a refreshing fruit juice from the beach bar, we walked to the small ‘pool’ on the other side of the beach, where my fiancé immediately waded into the water.

Unfortunately, shaded spots were in short supply, so we did not stay long and soon made our way back to our bicycles. We took things more slowly during our final days on La Digue, spending plenty of time at our accommodation, by the pool and on the beach.

Mahé

On day 11, we travelled to Mahé, where I had to drive on the left-hand side of the road for the first time in my life. However, you soon get used to it. Our final accommodation, Emma's Guest House and Self-Catering, was our favourite. It was excellent, with everything we could possibly need, and offered more privacy than our previous accommodation. We drove to a variety of beaches around the island.

Our favourite beach on Mahé was Petite Anse.

On one of the days, we also visited the Takamaka Rum Distillery and joined a free tour, which was very informative. We spent our final evening enjoying the beach, and on the day of our departure, we visited Victoria, although we were not particularly impressed by it. Anse Boileau, MahéAnse Boileau, Mahé

Conclusion

We are so glad we went on this holiday. At first, we were not sure whether our budget would be enough for a trip to the Seychelles. However, between us, we spent around €5,000 on flights, accommodation, transfers, a hire car for 4 days, admission fees and food for 14 nights, and it was worth every cent.

We can also wholeheartedly recommend SeyVillas. The airline we had booked ceased operations completely 2 weeks after we made our booking. Even though it was shortly before Christmas, the SeyVillas team were easy to reach. Every member of staff we contacted was incredibly friendly. Everything worked perfectly, both during the planning process and once we arrived. We found booking everything through a single provider very convenient and stress-free.

This certainly will not be our last visit to the Seychelles. Next time, we would spend more days on Mahé. A guided snorkelling tour and an excursion to Curieuse also seem well worth doing.
