The Best Way to Celebrate Retirement!

And here we are, back from paradise!

Before choosing the Seychelles as our destination, we had our doubts. A seaside holiday would be quite different from the trips we usually take, discovering new countries and customs, perhaps with a few relaxing days by the sea at the end… However, while browsing the SeyVillas website, we were captivated by the beauty of these islands and decided to make them our destination.

We were slightly concerned that February is the summer season in the Seychelles, with humid weather and the possibility of downpours, but we were extremely lucky with that too!

As soon as we arrived on Praslin, while waiting to collect our hire car, we found ourselves in the middle of a tropical storm. It lasted only half an hour, but that was enough to flood everything around us. Yet it disappeared as quickly as it had arrived, and the glorious sunshine returned. It stayed with us for the remaining two weeks, apart from the evening of our departure, when we encountered more rain at the airport. In a way, it made us feel slightly better about having to leave this wonderful place!

But back to our trip: 15 days between Praslin, La Digue and Mahé.

We could not have made a better choice!

Praslin

We spent 5 nights on Praslin at Omusee Gueshouse — an interesting museum and a welcoming family — with a hire car that allowed us to explore the island’s beautiful beaches and inland forests.

The spectacular, seemingly endless Anse Lazio is an absolute must-see, and we also admired the beautiful giant tortoises there.

Mahé

We spent 3 nights on Mahé, the largest island, but no less beautiful.

Victoria Market is fascinating. It is open every day and is a wonderful place to meet local people buying produce from the colourful stalls. There were tropical fruits and vegetables that we had the chance to enjoy every morning, as they were always included in the delicious breakfasts we were served. Each one was tastier than the last! Then there were the rows of enormous fish, some of which we also saw while snorkelling at various spots around Praslin and La Digue.

Near the market, the Hindu temple is also very beautiful. We made sure to visit it, drawn by its colours and by the people bringing offerings of flowers and fruit. It was truly atmospheric!

La Digue

Then came our 5 nights in the extraordinary paradise of La Digue, undoubtedly the island that captured our hearts! It is a world of its own, with wonderful hidden corners to discover by bicycle along car-free roads through the forest, and Anse Source d'Argent, deservedly described as the most beautiful beach in the world!

Above all, there was the accommodation recommended by the lovely ladies at the SeyVillas office: Belle des Iles Guesthouse. There, we were thoroughly spoilt by the wonderful Fleur, an incredible woman who served us delicious evening meals beneath the patio of her beautiful little villa.

Every day, she would pick unfamiliar fruits from her garden for us to try, and each evening, after serving us, she would sit and tell us about life on her beautiful island.

I cried when we left!

I would like to thank SeyVillas from the bottom of my heart for making this holiday such a wonderful experience.

Everything went perfectly: the accommodation, transfers, courtesy and punctuality! Special praise must go to the ladies at SeyVillas, whom I pestered with questions and who always had an answer for me.

Our sincerest compliments to you, and thank you for giving us the opportunity to experience this dream in the best possible way!
