Dream Holiday on La Digue

We spent two wonderful weeks on La Digue. We stayed at Granite Self Catering, a small but charming two-storey guesthouse right in La Passe. The lovingly furnished accommodation is situated in a quiet side street and was cleaned daily. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and they made us feel completely at home. Our bed linen was changed 3 times, and we were also given fresh towels 3 times. Guests are welcome to use the garden, where bananas and coconuts grow alongside beautiful flowers. The bedroom has air conditioning, the kitchen is well equipped, and there is a washing machine for doing laundry. There is also no need to hire bicycles at the beach, as the accommodation provides its own.

On the day we arrived, our host met us at the ferry and accompanied us to the accommodation. Sylvia explained everything thoroughly and recommended several places worth visiting. The next morning, we cycled straight to Anse Severe to go snorkelling. There are beautiful fish and even sea turtles to see here.

We visited this beach almost every day, where we could do plenty of snorkelling or simply relax on the sand. On our short daily bicycle rides, we regularly encountered giant tortoises. They were very friendly and always delighted to receive a piece of banana.

For our excursion to Anse Cocos, we cycled to the end of the road at Grand Anse. From there, we hiked through the impressive jungle, first to Petzite Anse and then on to Anse Cocos. This was our favourite beach of all and is definitely worth a visit! There were hardly any other tourists, and it is far away from the roads and accommodation. It truly feels like paradise here.

Another excursion took us up the mountain on La Digue Island, where we climbed to an elevation of 333 m. We cycled almost to the end of the paved road and continued on foot, first to Belle Vue and then to the island’s highest point, Nid d’Aigle. The view was fantastic, and this trip is also well worthwhile.

Anse Source d`Argent is another beautiful beach, with views towards Praslin. The park also features an old cemetery and a kind of botanical garden to explore.

The takeaways offer different dishes each day, while the restaurants serve everything from Creole cuisine to pizza. We particularly loved the small triangular vegetable samosas. We found them at the supermarket near Anse Reunion.
