Our Top 10 Seychelles Experiences

Before setting off, we looked at more than one ‘top ten’ for the Seychelles, starting with the most beautiful beaches listed on the SeyVillas website. So, after spending 10 days travelling between different islands and taking in wonderful landscapes and views, we decided to share our own personal top ten when we returned.

10. Port Launay, Mahé

A very small but pleasant beach in the north-west of Mahé. Like many beaches in the Seychelles – almost all of them – it changes completely between morning and afternoon. One slight drawback is the number of boats in such a small bay, which make the water a little cloudy.

9. Sans Soucis Road, Mahé

Do not miss the scenic road that crosses northern Mahé from east to west. The vegetation along the way and the panoramic viewpoints are stunning, and it is worth taking your time and savouring every single kilometre.

8. Beau Vallon, Mahé

Certainly one of the most famous and most popular beaches on Mahé, Beau Vallon offers the widest choice of both accommodation and places to eat. It is a very broad beach surrounded by lush greenery, full of life and always busy – by Seychelles standards, of course; nothing compared with our beaches in August. We spent two full days there, during which we also had the chance to try jet skiing and dine at some very interesting restaurants, such as La Perle Noir.

7. Anse Soleil, Mahé

Small, almost deserted and with stunning colours. Also excellent for snorkelling, this beach just a short distance from the Four Seasons, in the south-west of Mahé, was a wonderful discovery. It is reminiscent of Anse Lazio, but on a much smaller scale. We had lunch on the Beachcomber Hotel’s terrace overlooking the sea, which was truly delightful.

6. Trekking Grand Anse - Petite Anse - Anse Cocos, La Digue

After Anse Source D’Argent on La Digue, we headed towards Grand Anse. The beach here is majestic, but swimming is strongly discouraged: the waves and currents are very powerful. Nevertheless, this vast beach deserves to be experienced in all its grandeur, with the roar of its waves and the softness of its sand.

But there is no need to stop there: from here, you can follow a trail that feels like a proper trek, with an undulating route through the forest leading from Grand Anse to Petite Anse and finally to Anse Cocos. It is an absolute must. Make sure you allow enough time: the walk from Grand Anse to Anse Cocos takes around 25–30 minutes each way.

5. Anse Intendance, Mahé

Anse Intendance is by far the most enjoyable beach for anyone who, like us, loves playing in the waves. The waves are thunderous but not as dangerous as those at Grand Anse, allowing you to feel like a child again and simply enjoy a wonderful day. A truly surprising beach.

4. Au Cap / Anse aux Pins, Mahé

Without a doubt, this was the most unexpected beach, and one that is rarely mentioned.

We were driving along the road from Eden Island towards southern Mahé when, about 200 m before the Takamaka distillery, we parked the car and discovered this paradise.

The water remains shallow, reaching no higher than your knees across a vast distance, all the way to the reef in the distance. There are tiny sand ‘islets’ where you can lie down and sunbathe, surrounded by breathtaking turquoise water. Visit in the morning to experience it at its best, because by the afternoon it will have disappeared.

3. St Anne Marine Park

Thanks to SeyVillas, we booked a catamaran excursion to St Anne Marine Park, organised in collaboration with Creole Travel Services.

It was a wonderful day, with the excursion exceptionally well planned in every respect. The catamaran was extremely clean – they ask you to leave your flip-flops behind before boarding, and you find them waiting for you on the beaches when you stop – the food was excellent, and the explanations were comprehensive. The highlight of the trip was the walk on Moyenne Island, with its adorable giant tortoises and breathtaking views. Not to mention the stretch of shallow sea separating Moyenne from Round Island. Spectacular.

We highly, highly recommend it.

2. Anse Source D’Argent, La Digue

It may seem strange to find it in second place rather than first, but we will explain why. Anse Source D’Argent is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and that is absolutely true.

The water is indescribable, the rocks create cinematic landscapes, pathways and views, and the sand is so white and fine that every step feels like a dream.

A natural wonder that simply cannot be missed.

1. Anse Lazio, Praslin

We may be going against the grain, or perhaps we are simply unusual, but for us the true queen of Seychelles beaches is Anse Lazio.

This beach combines everything you could possibly want: it is spacious, never crowded, with fine white sand and water of an unimaginable turquoise. It is perfect for swimming, yet equally enjoyable when there are a few waves, and is framed by the granite boulders and palm trees so typical of the Seychelles. In short, the perfect setting for this Arabian Nights holiday.
