Bird Island & Cerf Island – Simply Wonderful!
Bird Island
Our journey began on Bird Island. It lies around 80 km from Mahé and is reached by propeller plane. Even from the air, the island looked beautiful. A little paradise with fascinating plant life and a long, white sandy beach stretching around the entire island.
The creatures we saw there were even more fascinating: enormous tortoises roaming freely all over the island, which were quite happy to be fed. They especially like to venture out after it has rained, as they shelter from the hot sun beneath the trees and bushes. However, because they are so large, they are very easy to spot. It rained every few days, but never for long, usually just a few hours, which was actually very pleasant.
There was also plenty to see underwater – it was like a huge aquarium. We saw lots of sea turtles and fish.

Then there were all the different species of birds. They were flying and chirping everywhere, without the slightest sign of fear. The birds loved perching on our terrace. The little houses were very simply furnished, but beautifully presented and had everything we needed. Here, you are not paying for luxuries you would not miss anyway, but for the unique nature of the island. We could easily explore the entire island on foot, walking both across and around it, and this was also how we reached the large bird colony in the north of the island.
The food was always very fresh and delicious, especially the fish and fresh salads, which were beautifully prepared. Sadly, the seven days passed far too quickly. It was probably the most beautiful place we have ever seen. We will return one day!

Cerf Island
Our journey then continued to Cerf Island, where we stayed at the lovely Villa de Cerf. The rooms were very cosy and furnished with great care. There is also a large swimming pool. The atmosphere was wonderful, the people were incredibly friendly, open and helpful, and the service was excellent. Best of all was the fantastic food: creative, varied and simply delicious.
There is a wonderful sandy beach right on the doorstep, with a beautiful coral reef nearby. It is very easy to reach the main island by boat. We took a local bus to Victoria, which was quite an adventure, as the vehicle resembled a rattling old banger from the 1960s. Nevertheless, it got us to Victoria safely and in one piece. It was quite lively there, with plenty of tourists, shops and a market where you can buy all sorts of things. We visited the beautiful botanical gardens, which are extensive and absolutely stunning. Among other things, you can see the famous largest seeds in the world, which are also a symbol of the Seychelles.
Cerf Island is very lush, with dense jungle. There is a hidden path running right across the island, allowing you to reach the other side fairly quickly. You do not have to search for long, as both locals and other tourists know the way and are happy to help. However, some caution is needed, as the island is teeming with mosquitoes, so you should arm yourself with insect repellent beforehand.
We will never forget our time in the Seychelles and all the wonderful impressions we gathered!
Thank you for such an amazing time!
