La Digue, Our Island of Relaxation

For the second time, we booked a trip to the Seychelles through SeyVillas. As we had visited all three islands last time, we decided to spend two weeks in a guest house on La Digue. For us, it is pure relaxation. Once again, the transfers went smoothly, and Creole took excellent care of all our transfers locally. At our first guest house, Belle des Iles Guest House, we catered for ourselves, and the spacious house had everything we needed. After a leisurely breakfast, we explored the island on the bicycles provided. Depending on where there was shade, we sometimes moved between different beaches each day. One beach with guaranteed shade throughout the day is Anse Severe. At high tide, it is possible to snorkel straight from the beach. On two occasions, we spotted and watched sea turtles there. A dream.

Anse SevereAnse Severe The beaches of Grand Anse, Petite Anse & Anse Cocos are in the other direction on the island, and Grand Anse is easy to reach by bicycle. From there, you need to walk to Petite Anse, but the route is relatively easy. To reach the next beach, Anse Cocos, you have to continue on foot across slightly more challenging terrain. These sandy beaches are an absolute dream, however. The rock formations and white sand are perfect. You should not underestimate the undercurrents, but with such beautiful waves, there is no need to venture far out. Swimming there with small children is difficult, although it is possible with great care.

Twice, we also spent an entire day in the park and at Anse Union. There is an admission charge, but the grounds are extensive and there is plenty to see.

The sunsets there are magnificent, and we always stayed until nightfall. We usually spent our time at one of the furthest coves. We also swam with sea turtles there twice.

Another beautiful, secluded beach we discovered while cycling around the north of the island was Anse Banane. There were only 6 of us beneath the shade of the takamaka trees – simply beautiful.

During the day, we could shop at the many little ‘corner shops’, where we found everything we needed. In the evenings, we almost always ate at a takeaway. There are several dotted around the island, and we enjoyed the food everywhere. At around €4 per dish, the price is excellent. We also think it is lovely to eat local food while you are there, with different curries available every day. Another recommendation is Cerof restaurant, which offers a buffet several times a week.

Anse Source d'ArgentAnse Source d'Argent When cycling around the island, it is also worth stopping at one of the many fruit bars, where they will make the juice of your choice for just a few rupees. It is also important to take a torch with you in the evening, as it gets dark early. Street lighting is sparse, but with our lights, cycling after dark was not a problem either.

We can highly recommend this type of holiday for complete relaxation. Even after 12 days on the island, we never felt restless or confined and enjoyed everything. We think the island has accommodation to suit everyone’s preferences. There are hotels too, although we preferred the more individual experience. SeyVillas was perfect for our trip: you can tailor everything to your own needs, and we think the price is fair. We will definitely visit the island again!
