At the end of July, we flew from Frankfurt to Mahé. We travelled overnight and
arrived on Mahé in the morning. We then took a domestic flight straight on to
the island of Praslin. SeyVillas had recommended this to us. It is convenient because
it only takes half an hour to reach Praslin. At the airport, we collected our hire car
and were able to drive straight to our hotel. The hotel is
only 2 km from the airport. This was helpful, as they drive on the left.
Praslin is easy to explore by car. All the beaches are beautiful, but
Anse Lazio
and Anse Georgette
are even more impressive than the others. One day, we took a Sagittarius excursion to Curieuse Island.

There, we saw and stroked many giant tortoises. It took us a very, very long time to find the Sagittarius stand. We reached the stand via the Paradise Sun Hotel.
One day, we visited Fond Ferdinand. The park can only be visited as part of a guided tour. We learnt a great deal, particularly about the coco de mer.

After 5 days, we took the ferry to La Digue. We stayed in a holiday apartment at Cabanes des Anges, with breakfast included. It was lovely to have breakfast served to us for a change. We did wonder,
however, why they did not simply serve local coconuts, bananas and other fruit. That would have been more interesting than apples, for example. The fruit shakes were very good, though.
Overall, the breakfast was very good. We were able to use the hotel’s bicycles and cycled along many of the paths. Cycling tour on La Digue
Our favourite places
were Grand Anse
and Petite Anse
(you have to follow a trail over rocks
to get from Grand Anse to Petite Anse), as well as L'Union Estate , which provides access to Anse Source d'Argent. We would have happily spent another day or 2 on La Digue…

After 4 days, we took the ferry to Mahé. If you are prone to seasickness, it is advisable to take a travel sickness tablet. Mahé is completely different. It is much louder and livelier, particularly the capital, Victoria. It is very easy to travel to Victoria by bus. The bus driver may even stop for you if you are not standing at a bus stop. Buses run regularly on Mahé. We never had to wait long. We also visited Eden Island by bus. Unfortunately, the aquarium featuring native fish no longer exists. From our holiday apartment, we only had to cross the road and could walk to Beau Vallon
beach in 10 minutes. We went there almost every evening. On Wednesdays in particular, there are lots of food stalls. One day, we took the boat operated by the L'Habitation hotel to Cerf Island. The crossing costs €50.00 per person, including a meal at the hotel. On our penultimate day, we walked the Anse Major Trail . That was another highlight.
We booked a total of 3 holiday apartments. We personally prefer apartments because we
had a kitchen and could cook for ourselves. We bought and ate lots of fruit
that we had never tried before. On Praslin, we got to know
our neighbour, who was a local. He opened coconuts for us, or rather
his cocos rouges, so that we could drink from them. As a thank-you, we gave him some rupees,
and we had some lovely conversations with him.
The Seychelles are definitely well worth a holiday.
