Our stay on Mahé was similar. We traveled on May 1st, unaware that it was a public holiday and practically everything was closed. Additionally, the town was only open until noon on Saturday. As a result, we were practically unable to do anything from Friday to Sunday, leaving us with only Monday free. We wish we had been informed about such important local holidays and opening hours. At our fourth hotel, the Canopy by Hilton Seychelles on Mahé, the staff was friendly and the overall standard was acceptable. However, the hotel did not meet our expectations for a relaxing end to our holiday. On May 1st, there was a DJ playing by the pool all day, and on May 2nd, an event or collaboration took place with numerous tents set up in front of the hotel and loud live music playing all day. This made it far too noisy to truly relax. We also noticed that there were a lot of locals at the hotel, especially on weekends—it seemed like there were more than tourists. This bothered us personally, as we paid a decent price for the hotel and had to share the entire infrastructure with many other guests. Although the hotel gave us a different room after we complained, we would have appreciated being informed of this beforehand, if they were aware of it.

The beautiful, tasteful decor and truly lovely rooms with good air conditioning couldn't compensate for the lack of warmth and, above all, the rather poor location of the Canopy. The beach in February/March was the worst we've experienced on our trips to the Seychelles – but the surrounding area was also rather underwhelming. Breakfast was very good, the bread selection was particularly noteworthy, and dinner was also delicious. The à la carte restaurant, which requires reservations, is highly recommended. During our stay, it seemed that three-quarters of the guests at the Canopy were Russian-speaking. Whether you like it or not, it's something to keep in mind.
