Our Perfect Honeymoon in the Seychelles
Preparing for the trip
Arriving on Mahé and La Digue
After our long flight from Germany, we arrived at the airport on Mahé. The airport on Mahé is small but well organised. We found a taxi relatively quickly, which took us to the harbour. From there, we caught the ferry to Praslin, where we had to change to a smaller ferry for the onward journey to La Digue.
When we arrived on La Digue, we could hardly believe our luck! At 28°C, with high humidity, the weather was very pleasant. Before us lay the blue water and green mountains, while birds chirped all around us.
We walked to our apartment, Cabanes des Anges. The apartment was absolutely huge, and our terrace looked directly onto the pool. The bicycles we had hired from the hotel in advance for our stay on La Digue were waiting for us at the rear entrance. A freshly prepared breakfast was served on our terrace every morning. All it took was a quick call to reception with our breakfast order, and the food arrived punctually at our table.
La Digue
In the Seychelles, it became light at around 6 a.m. and was already dark again by around 6 p.m. We therefore started our days relatively early, so that we could enjoy a leisurely dinner in the evening. La Digue may not be a large island, but visitors are so well dispersed that there is always a secluded beach where you can settle down.

We explored a great deal by bicycle, went hiking and thoroughly enjoyed the secluded beaches. Giant tortoises and colourful fish can also be found almost everywhere on La Digue. The island is equally ideal for families. Crime, at least in our experience, was unheard of on La Digue, and the people there are very friendly.

Mahé
After 5 nights, we took the ferry back to Mahé. This time, however, the crossing was truly awful, especially for someone prone to seasickness like me, as the sea was extremely rough that day. Once we had solid ground beneath our feet again, we took a taxi to the most beautiful accommodation we had ever stayed in.
As ‘honeymooners’, we were given the second-highest villa. Villas de Jardin is set amid the forest, and its enormous terrace offers a direct view of the sea while you listen to the sound of the waves.

The manager of ‘Villas de Jardin’ was born in Germany and gave us some excellent insider tips. We visited the capital, Victoria, and climbed Copolia. From there, we had the perfect view across Mahé.

We spent our final 3 nights at Kempinski Seychelles Resort. Here, we could finally dine like royalty, as we no longer had to cater for ourselves. Unfortunately, there is not a particularly wide selection of food in the Seychelles. A lot of tinned or frozen food is eaten.
Looking back, it was the perfect honeymoon for us. We plan to travel to the Seychelles again in 10 years. La Digue will certainly be right at the top of our list once more, but we would also love to discover Praslin.
