Our Honeymoon in the Seychelles
Full of anticipation, we flew with Emirates via Dubai to Mahé, Seychelles, on 3 September 2015. Unfortunately, the Seychelles welcomed us with a heavy downpour, which did not let up for the rest of the day. We had deliberately chosen September, as statistically it was supposed to have the fewest rainy days. Of our 14 days in the Seychelles, it rained on at least five. However, we found the average temperature of 28°C very pleasant.
Mahé
On Mahé, we began our stay at the Savoy Resort & Spa on Beau Vallon. It is a fantastic luxury resort on Mahé’s most beautiful beach. After two days on the beach, recovering from the flight and the wedding, we planned the rest of our time on Mahé once we were there. As we are very adventurous, we picked out some lovely places to visit and hiking trails. We hired a car for this. You quickly get used to driving on the left, and prices are reasonable.
Here is a small selection of recommended places to visit:
– Vacoa Nature Trail
– Victoria
– Le Jardin du Roi
– Petite Anse

Praslin
After seven days, we said goodbye to the main island of Mahé. As we are not particularly good sailors, we opted for the slightly more expensive inter-island flight. And yes, we can wholeheartedly recommend it. We each flew with 30 kg of luggage, which was no problem at all for Air Seychelles. We did not have to pay any extra charges. After 15 minutes and some sensational views from the plane, we landed on the laid-back island of Praslin. We hired a car here as well and drove to our accommodation, Chalets Cote Mer. The chalets were beautifully furnished and clean. Above all, the direct view of the sea was unbeatable. As we had a car, the lack of a beach did not bother us. Breakfast was rather average, but dinner was delicious. There is also an excellent French bakery not far from the chalets.
As for Praslin’s beaches, they really are very beautiful, but by no means as deserted as you might imagine. You should also expect seaweed on some beaches, where you can get badly bitten by sandflies. Anse Lazio, often described as THE beach, was also completely overcrowded when we visited. After searching for some time, our favourite was Cote d'Or Beach. It was very large and beautiful. We can also recommend Fond Ferdinand Park as a place to visit. The guided tour through the park was well worth doing.
We also took a day trip to the island of La Digue. The island is certainly no longer car-free. However, cycling around it is still great fun. We would recommend staying for more than just a day trip.
Conclusion
Our 14 days in the Seychelles went by quickly. We can recommend all three islands. However, the one bitter note was that we felt the Seychelles were becoming slightly overcrowded. This is partly because flights are becoming more frequent and affordable. The construction boom in the Seychelles is not slowing down either, so in our opinion, this paradise is under threat...
