Reggae and Chilling Out in the Seychelles

We had wanted to spend our holiday in the Seychelles for a long time. As we are quite adventurous and enjoy variety even when on holiday, a simple beach holiday was not for us. Island hopping and the many different possible combinations allowed us to put together a varied itinerary while still having plenty of opportunities to relax on the beautiful beaches along the way.

PRASLIN

After landing on Mahé, we took the ferry to our first destination – the island of Praslin. We spent the first 4 days of our holiday there and had booked a room at Beach Villa Guesthouse. The accommodation is ideally located for walking to the shops and going out for a meal, yet it is still quiet at night. The guesthouse is situated directly on Grand Anse. Unfortunately, swimming was not recommended during our stay because seaweed had washed ashore. However, this was not a problem for us, as we had been informed in advance and had a hire car, so we could easily visit other beaches. For example, we drove to Anse Lazio and Anse la Blague.

From Praslin, we also took a boat trip to Curieuse Island. The giant tortoises were very impressive and remarkably tame. This excursion was the best experience of our holiday and is thoroughly recommended.

LA DIGUE

On La Digue, our time was mainly spent relaxing on the beautiful beaches and doing plenty of cycling. We had 4 days to explore the entire island by bicycle. In our opinion, the most beautiful beaches included Grand Anse, Anse Patates and Anse Source d'Argent. While snorkelling, we sometimes saw a wonderful variety of colourful fish. Our accommodation, Tannette's Villa, was surrounded by greenery yet still not far from the village of La Passe.

MAHÉ

On the largest island, we stayed for 5 days at The Beach House on Beau Vallon. Naturally, sightseeing in the capital, Victoria, was on our itinerary. The Sir Selwyn Selwyn Clarke Market and Hindu Temple - Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar are particularly worth visiting.

The view over Victoria from La Misere View Point is beautiful. We also visited a tea plantation and Le Jardin Du Roi Spice Garden, with its exotic plants and fruits. Of all the beaches, we were particularly impressed by Grand Anse and Anse Intendance, with their high waves. Due to the dangerous undercurrents, you need to be careful when swimming at these beaches and make sure not to venture too far out. As long as you bear this in mind, swimming there is great fun!

Overall, we found the local people very friendly, relaxed and passionate about music. Everywhere we went, we heard music with a typical reggae rhythm. As Festival Kreol was taking place during our stay on Mahé, we also had the chance to experience how much the local people enjoy celebrating. For meals, we mainly went to the takeaway outlets frequented by locals, where the food was always very good and comparatively inexpensive.

Although we visited 3 islands within 2 weeks, the trip never felt stressful. This was also partly thanks to the organisation by SeyVillas. All transfers by land and sea were carried out reliably and punctually. We did not have to worry about anything apart from being ready for collection at the agreed time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can wholeheartedly recommend a holiday in the Seychelles.
