The Seychelles Are Well Worth a Visit

When choosing our holiday destination, I had little more than pictures of beautiful beaches in mind. I soon discovered the SeyVillas website. I was impressed by the simple steps for creating a personalised itinerary, with an instant quotation package. Flights – hotel – car hire were all booked quickly and easily. We soon became accustomed to driving on the left, although we often found ourselves trying to get into the car on the wrong side.

We wanted to visit 3 islands in 15 days: We were met at the airport and taken to the shuttle bus. It drove us to the harbour, where we caught the ferry to our first island.

La Digue: 5 nights

This island has so much charm. Our accommodation arranged bicycles for us, and we began by exploring the north coast. On the way to Anse Severe, two giant tortoises crossed the road, giving us our first holiday highlight straight away.

However, the friendly owner explained that the flavour only really comes through when you chew them together. He also brought us fresh bananas and said that coconut combined with fresh plantain tastes like ice cream.

The days end quickly, as it gets dark at 7 o’clock. There are plenty of restaurants very close to the accommodation. Even so, the evenings on the veranda were very peaceful. There is no noisy nightlife on La Digue.

SunsetSunset After a good breakfast in the accommodation’s restaurant, we cycled to the famous Anse Source d'Argent the next day. The only way to reach it is through the national park, which charges an entrance fee. The beautiful park has an enclosure with more than 40 tortoises, which visitors can feed. The beach consists of several truly beautiful coves. The visitors spread out, and we always managed to find a quiet spot.

Anse Source d'ArgentAnse Source d'Argent We liked it so much that we returned the following day. Distances on the island are not great. Our accommodation was close to the harbour, making it a central starting point for all the beaches. It was also easy to walk there from the harbour, even with luggage.

The journey to Grand Anse and Petite Anse was a little more strenuous. We cycled through the jungle and over the hill to the other side of the island. Grand Anse is a beautiful, wide beach with strong waves. This is where most visitors tend to stay.

Praslin: 5 nights

We took the ferry across to Praslin. There, we were met by the car hire company. The handover was completely straightforward and took place in the harbour car park.

I would recommend hiring a car to explore this island, as the coasts are connected by only two mountain roads. Our accommodation was on the west coast, right by the beach, although the beach was not suitable for swimming. Even so, it was relaxing to sit on a sun lounger, look out over the beach and read a book. The apartment was extremely well equipped and very clean.

We explored the island by car in a day. It did not take long to get an overview of the beaches. The main tourist beach is the kilometre-long Anse Volbert (Cote d'Or). This is also where you will find shops.

We preferred the smaller coves, so we set off for Anse Georgette.

Anse Georgette, PraslinAnse Georgette, Praslin The Constance Lémuria Seychelles is located at Anse Kerlan in the north-west. You have to register in advance to pass through the grounds. Anse Georgette can only be reached on foot via this route, through the jungle or from Anse Lazio in the north. The path leads past the golf course and through the spacious resort grounds. We climbed up to the viewpoint and enjoyed a fantastic view of Anse Kerlan, the resort and Petite Anse Kerlan.

Anse KerlanAnse Kerlan Anse Georgette was well worth the effort. To help us recharge, a beach vendor brought us a truly generous fruit platter and fresh coconut milk. We spent the evening tired but happy on our balcony overlooking the sea.

Personally, Anse Lazio was my favourite. We drove along the east coast all the way to the north. There was a car park right by the beach, which was much more convenient than the day before. We were also able to stay until sunset.

Unfortunately, we had to cut our holiday short due to a bereavement. We used our departure day to visit Vallée de Mai. The rainforest provided a welcome contrast to the beaches. Sheltered beneath the palm leaves, the rain did not bother us. It was a very beautiful circular walk.

We really liked Praslin too! We arranged to shorten our holiday by email. SeyVillas was completely reliable and helpful here as well. We received a response straight away. All correspondence was in German, and we always had a dedicated contact person. They arranged the early return of our hire car and cancelled our stay on Mahé for us.

Thank you very much!
