Fascinating Impressions of Praslin, La Digue and Mahé

Before the trip

We booked our trip through SeyVillas in February after a friend recommended the agency to me. Everything went brilliantly from booking through to departure. We could contact the team at any time and always received a prompt response. Helpful tips and information are also provided in great detail in the online travel guide. Once the trip was booked, our excitement grew by the day.

Arrival and first island – Praslin

After landing on Mahé following a journey of around 14 hours, we collected our luggage and were met by a member of staff from Creole Travel Service, who had organised all our transport. We took a shared transfer to the harbour and then the ferry to Praslin. Once there, another shared transfer took us to our accommodation. The transfers went very smoothly, and there were Creole Travel Service staff everywhere who were always available to answer any questions. On Praslin, we stayed at Ocean Villa for 4 nights. Aylin, the owner, welcomed us and explained everything. There was a starter pack in the fridge with bread, juice, water and so on, as well as a fresh coconut. The rooms were very clean, and everything was well maintained. If you wish, Aylin will also cook dinner for you (€25 per person). We took her up on this on our first day, as we were very tired and did not have to worry about anything else. We could contact the owner via WhatsApp at any time, and she can also help if you would like to hire a car or book excursions.

We hired a car for 3 days, which gave us the flexibility to explore the island. However, be aware that the roads are often very winding, narrow and steep. The Seychelles also drives on the left, so you should be a confident driver and always drive carefully. We visited Vallée de Mai, where we were even able to take a guided tour in German. This is definitely recommended, as the guides can show you much more than you would see if you walked through the park independently. Vallée de MaiVallée de MaiIf you would also like to do a little hiking during your holiday, there is a short trail near Vallée de Mai called the Glacis Noir Trail. It is very well signposted, and at the end there is a small viewing tower offering a lovely view.

Another highlight was a boat trip to Curieuse Island. We booked the excursion through Taxi Sagittarius for €65 per person, which included only the return boat transfer. Once you arrive, the tortoises are already there waiting for you, roaming freely around the island. You can feed and stroke them, and it was a truly wonderful experience.

After a short hike, we reached Anse St Jose, where we relaxed for a while and enjoyed the sea before the boat taxi collected us again. Another tip is to plan a visit to Anse Georgette.

However, you need to register with a resort in advance, as the beach can only be reached via a path through the resort. We requested this through SeyVillas, and shortly afterwards they sent us confirmation guaranteeing access. Once you arrive at the resort, it is still around a 30-minute walk to the beach, but it is definitely worth it. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Seychelles. Another particularly lovely beach on Praslin is Anse Lazio

Second island – La Digue

On the fifth day, our journey continued by ferry to La Digue. Our accommodation was called La Digue Self Catering. It is in a very central location and is a small, clean apartment. Although La Digue is the smallest of the 3 main islands, you should certainly not miss it, as there are some beautiful places here too. One example is Anse Source d'Argent, which is located within L’Union Estate. You have to pay an entrance fee of around €10 to visit the beach, but it is simply a must-see. We also booked a 3-hour kayak tour there with Crystal Water Kayak Tour.

The tour is led by a guide who explains several interesting things, and we could even see coral during the tour. Another special feature of La Digue is that bicycles are the main means of transport. There are very few cars here, which makes island life feel even more relaxed. You can also go on a few hikes, such as the trail up Nid d'Aigle. We also really enjoyed the hike to Anse Cocos. One of our favourite beaches here was Anse Severe, which was not far from our accommodation. With its beach bars and large palm trees providing plenty of shade, it was a wonderful beach for relaxing.

Third island – Mahé

After 4 days, we continued to our final island, Mahé. We booked the apartment Le Domaine de Bacova, which was very spacious and cleaned every day. We never met the owner in person, but we kept in touch with him via WhatsApp. He immediately sent us tips and recommendations for nearby restaurants and also helped us organise a hire car. Everything worked brilliantly. Mahé is certainly much busier and, in my opinion, not as idyllic as the other 2 islands. Nevertheless, you should not miss this island on a trip to the Seychelles. The capital, Victoria, with its market and Hindu temple, is definitely worth visiting.

The island is also home to the Takamaka Rum Distillery We took a guided tour with a tasting there, which is highly recommended. There are also several hikes on Mahé. Two that we can recommend are the Copolia Lodge Trail and Morne Blanc.

The trails are signposted and are certainly manageable if you are reasonably fit. A beautiful view awaits at the end of both hikes. Our favourite beach on the island was Beau Vallon. It is a little busier, with plenty of local people too, but the beach is excellent for swimming.

Conclusion

After 5 days on Mahé, our island-hopping trip through the Seychelles came to an end. One small tip for your final day: if you have to check out in the morning but your flight is not until the evening, book your hire car through to the last day. This allows you to store your luggage in the car and make the most of your final day by visiting another attraction or driving to a beach. In the evening, we were able to leave the car at our accommodation, lock the key inside and have it collected from there. We would wholeheartedly recommend a trip to the Seychelles. SeyVillas provides professional support, and everything went smoothly.
