Dream Holiday in the Seychelles
For 35 years, I had dreamt of going on holiday to the Seychelles. Sadly, it is already over, but I will never forget this trip for as long as I live. The journeys there and back were rather tiring, with a stopover in Doha – around 24 hours in total. Doha Airport is well worth seeing, but next time I would prefer to book a direct flight.
When we finally arrived on Mahé, we were met by Creole Travel. Everything went very quickly and smoothly. We also reached the ferry in no time – the crossing was very choppy, but we had already been warned about that.
La Digue
When we arrived on La Digue, we received a very warm welcome at our accommodation, Chalet Bamboo Vert, with a cool towel and a delicious hibiscus juice. The chalets are furnished in a practical, traditional local style. They are beautifully situated in a tropical garden filled with magnificent flowers. We had half board, and the food was excellent! Although the accommodation is not directly by the sea, we hired bicycles on our very first day and set off for a different beach each day. There were very few visitors during our stay, so nowhere felt crowded. Hardly anyone on the beaches – I love that! The locals are exceptionally friendly and seem very content – I think they know they live in paradise! The greatest highlight was, of course, Anse Source d'Argent – an absolute dream – but we also thought Grand Anse and Anse Patates were beautiful. In fact, the whole island is so lovely that you never want to leave. The climate is certainly intense, though – 33°C and 89% humidity take some getting used to. Even so, we explored the entire island. It is brilliant by bicycle. Unfortunately, not all the beaches are easy to reach, and some require climbing over rocks with a guide, but despite the humid heat, it is definitely worthwhile.
Praslin
After a week, we moved on to Praslin. The transfers and ferry crossing went perfectly. Our accommodation, Cote D'Or Chalets, at Anse Volbert (Cote d'Or) was very pleasant, although we did not think the breakfast was quite as good. The accommodation is only a few metres from the beautiful beach. On Praslin, we hired a car and drove around the island, including to Anse Lazio. We also visited the Praslin Museum and the Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve, with its famous coco de mer palms and magnificent views. Everything is highly recommended.
On the day of our departure, we were due to be collected at 7 a.m., even though our flight was not leaving until 7.30 p.m. After a brief email exchange with Ena Tomic, who was our contact for the booking through SeyVillas, we managed to resolve the issue – many thanks once again!!!
One more thing absolutely must be mentioned: I have never seen such spectacular sunsets anywhere else!
If I return to the Seychelles, I would perhaps also stay on Mahé. Unfortunately, all we saw of it was the airport. So that means I absolutely must go back!!!
