La Digue & Praslin – Our Seychelles Dream Came True...

My husband Bertl and I decided at very short notice to escape the winter and set off on a two-week trip somewhere warm. We chose the Seychelles because we simply wanted to relax for two weeks, and these islands are perfect for that. Thanks to SeyVillas, we also found some wonderful accommodation.

La Digue

We landed on Mahé and continued to La Digue by ferry. Even the journey there was beautiful. As soon as we arrived on La Digue, we felt completely at ease.

Our five nights at Le Relax Luxury Lodge were incredibly relaxing, partly because we had the grounds almost entirely to ourselves most of the time, and partly because the staff were so friendly and warm. The food here is also highly recommended!

Looking back, La Digue was definitely our absolute favourite. The free-roaming giant tortoises, the almost complete absence of traffic, exploring by bicycle — whether during the day or at night — the incredibly beautiful Anse Source d’Argent, and the other stunning white-sand beaches, which are almost deserted, especially in the (south)east. For anyone seeking peace and quiet, we highly recommend Grand Anse, Petite Anse and Anse Cocos. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy life, as everything moves at a much slower pace here — and that is exactly how it should be!

Praslin

We also really enjoyed Praslin. We took the ferry again and travelled to Praslin for eight nights. This time, we had booked an apartment at Cote D'Or Chalets. The apartment was very modern and spacious, and its central location at Cote D’Or naturally had its advantages too. We hired a car for three days and explored the island. Thankfully, after numerous trips to Asia, driving on the left was no longer a problem for us, although it still takes some getting used to every time.

Among other places, we visited Anse Kerlan, where we found a secluded, picture-perfect cove and had it entirely to ourselves all day. Our ‘local beach’, Cote d'Or, is particularly beautiful in front of ‘Café des Art’, and you can often spot rays there too.

The most beautiful beach, however, is the famous Anse Lazio. Despite attracting plenty of visitors, it does not feel crowded and is simply breathtaking. Sometimes you can also spot baby blacktip reef sharks there. The two restaurants on the beach serve delicious Creole dishes as well. We also ate very well on Praslin at ‘Le Laurier’, a restaurant offering a daily Creole buffet that we can thoroughly recommend, and at ‘Villa de Pecheur’. The Italian restaurant at the end of Cote d’Or offers not only excellent service but also wonderful Italian food and delicious Italian ice cream.

There are excellent opportunities for snorkelling on both islands, and the underwater world around the Seychelles still seems to be thriving. We also particularly liked the fact that there are no sun loungers directly on the beaches, as this is precisely what makes them so beautiful. The islands are very peaceful, so anyone looking for hustle, bustle and parties has definitely come to the wrong place. For those seeking peace and quiet, as well as nature and beach lovers, however, the islands are perfect.

The return flight from Praslin to Mahé in a small plane with only 20 seats was another special experience and the perfect end to a dream holiday.

All in all, a blissful escape in paradise!
