Four Dream Islands in Two Weeks

We spent a long time searching for the perfect destination for our belated honeymoon and came across the Seychelles by chance. It turned out to be exactly the right choice.

Praslin

We took a direct overnight flight from Düsseldorf to Mahé and continued on to Praslin first thing in the morning. We spent our first few nights at the beautiful guesthouse Chalets Cote Mer. As well as the lovely view from our room’s balcony, the dining area was simply a dream. We could certainly get used to having breakfast overlooking the bay.

We hired a car and went on day trips around the island from the guesthouse. Driving on the left took a little getting used to during the first few hours, but by the second day it felt completely natural. As the second-largest island in the Seychelles, Praslin really has a great deal to offer. As well as beautiful beaches and small coves, it is always worth keeping an eye out for wildlife. Seychelles fruit bats, with wingspans of up to 1 metre, can be spotted all over the island.

Curieuse

From Praslin, we took a day trip to Curieuse to visit the island’s approximately 155 free-roaming giant tortoises. It was a dream! Even the boat trip was beautiful and took us past numerous beaches. When we arrived on the island, we were greeted by lots of giant tortoises, all just waiting for us to feed them and stroke their necks. We then continued on foot to the other side of the island. After crossing small hills and long boardwalks, a delicious beach barbecue awaited us.

La Digue

Our third stop was La Digue – or, more precisely, La Kaz Safran. We had thought that islands such as Praslin and Curieuse could not possibly be surpassed, but then we had not yet seen La Digue. La Digue is simply incredible! Every view looks as though it could be on a postcard.

As soon as we arrived at the harbour, we hired bicycles and set off to explore the island. On our very first day, we visited the dream beaches of Grand Anse, Petite Anse and Anse Cocos. You simply have to see these beaches.

For the following day, we had booked a full-day tour from Anse Source d'Argent to Anse Marron. We made our way over rocks, through forests and across the water to Anse Marron, where we enjoyed a lovely swim in the natural pool just offshore. Afterwards, we tried our hand at opening a coconut and tucked into a large platter of local fruit. Over the next few days, we embraced the island’s relaxed pace and simply took each day as it came. Sometimes we spent a few hours relaxing on the beach, sometimes we explored the water, and at other times we refuelled with a delicious takeaway.

Mahé

Our final stop was Mahé. We stayed at the small Hotel La Roussette, around 20 minutes from the airport. As the hotel was not fully booked, we received a complimentary upgrade and were given a larger room.

We had already booked a private full-day tour from Germany for the following day, so despite having only a few days on Mahé, we were able to see all the main sights. The absolute highlight was the market in Victoria, which is held six days a week. With local fruit and an enormous selection of fish, the market is the perfect place to meet local people. All the traders kindly explained the different fruits to us and often offered us a piece to try.

Conclusion

The Seychelles are simply a dream, and having SeyVillas organise the trip made our holiday perfect. We did not have to worry about a thing and had plenty of time for both exploring and relaxing.
