Our Honeymoon Exploring the Seychelles

Wanting to spend our honeymoon somewhere warm, we decided to give in to the temptation of visiting the Seychelles. We stayed for 12 nights at the same hotel, the Savoy Resort & Spa in Beau Vallon on the island of Mahé, which we booked with the assistance of SeyVillas.

As expected, this proved to be a very convenient choice, both for the comfort of our stay and for its strategic location for exploring Mahé and setting off on excursions to the archipelago’s other main islands.

Mahé

The day after our arrival, we set off in our hire car and began our visit in Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles. Although it is not very large, Victoria is quite hectic and very busy. Even so, we were able to get a feel for the rhythm of city life by exploring the streets lined with shops and visiting the botanical gardens, the Catholic church, the Anglican church, the Hindu temple, the covered market and several of the city’s monuments.

Over the following days, we ventured around the island of Mahé along its narrow roads, stopping at some of its most notable beaches, including Beau Vallon, Anse Royale, Anse Takamaka and Anse Forbans.

Naturally, the beach we had the most opportunities to enjoy was Beau Vallon, as it was right next to the hotel where we were staying. As well as the beaches and natural scenery, the Tea Factory is well worth a visit. This is where Sey-tea is produced, and you can watch the entire production process. Continuing along the same road, you can also reach Mission Lodge, home to the ruins of an old mission and offering splendid views.

La Digue

We visited La Digue on a day trip. We departed from Victoria airport on a domestic flight of around 20 minutes and arrived at Praslin airport. We then took a taxi to the harbour, followed by a boat journey of around 20 minutes to La Digue, where we hired 2 bicycles to explore the island. As we only had one day, we decided to visit the more populated western side.

We first ventured to the northern part of the island, where we stopped to admire the beautiful Anse Severe. We then turned around and headed south, where we visited the L’Union Estate nature reserve, which runs along the coast. There, you can see the giant tortoises, and we continued as far as Anse Source d'Argent, a wonderful beach.

Along the way, we stopped for lunch at a charming little local restaurant, which was very simple but served excellent food. Do not forget to browse the souvenir shops around the harbour area.

Praslin

We also devoted a day trip to Praslin. Setting off from Mahé airport on another flight of around 20 minutes, we arrived on Praslin and collected the car we had booked before setting off to explore the island. In particular, we visited Vallée de Mai National Park, where we admired the famous ‘Coco de Mer’, followed by some of the best-known beaches, including Anse Lazio, Grand Anse, Anse Takamaka and Anse Volbert (Cote d'Or). We also made time to browse the local souvenir shops and enjoy a lovely lunch at one of the island’s restaurants.

Eden Island

This little island, connected to Mahé by a bridge, also deserves a mention. There is not much in the way of natural scenery, as it is almost entirely occupied by a hotel and a shopping centre. Nevertheless, it is worth visiting, if only to admire the turquoise waters surrounding it.

We were very pleased with our honeymoon. The Seychelles are an absolute must-see: the beaches, crystal-clear sea, sunsets and abundant nature provide the perfect setting for a fantastic trip.

We can only recommend arranging a trip to the Seychelles and letting SeyVillas assist you. We had a wonderful experience and encountered no problems whatsoever with the accommodation where we stayed.
