Dream Holiday on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue

We flew overnight from Düsseldorf to the Seychelles with British Airways, stopping over in London, and arrived at around 7 a.m. on 20 September 2018. After a smooth welcome at the airport, we were taken to the harbour. This was where our 2-week island-hopping adventure in the Seychelles began. First, we took the ferry to Praslin, where we spent three nights at the beautiful Hirondelle . With its direct sea views and the beautiful Anse Volbert (Cote d'Or) beach, this accommodation was wonderfully relaxing.

The rather unusual journey on the public bus was definitely worthwhile: not only is it a very affordable way to explore the island (7 rupees, approximately 45 cents), but it also gives you direct contact with the local people. If you visit this beach, a stop at the Honesty Bar is a must. It was set up by a German expat and has provided her with a livelihood ever since. Be sure to try the Takamaka rum there – or elsewhere!

On 23 September, we continued by ferry to La Digue. We spent four nights at La Digue Self Catering. The accommodation is close to the harbour, so it is very centrally located and all kinds of shops are within walking distance. The island is so small, however, that it is very easy to explore on foot – or, even better, by bicycle. We even saw two tortoises in the middle of the road. We also really liked the island because of its compact size.

The persistent wind and resulting waves made the sea extremely rough, and many holidaymakers reached their physical limits and were sick. Once we arrived on Mahé, we were taken to our accommodation, Au Fond de Mer View. It is situated by the beautiful Grand Anse beach.

Grand AnseGrand Anse We did not hire a car during our seven days there, as we wanted to explore the island the typical local way: by public bus.

On our first day, we therefore took the bus straight to ‘Victoria’, the smallest capital city in the world. We began by visiting the traditional market and buying a few souvenirs for friends and acquaintances. Afterwards, we explored the city on foot. Finally, we took the bus to what is probably the best-known beach in the Seychelles, Beau Vallon. There, we fulfilled a long-held dream of riding a jet ski. For the equivalent of approximately €50, we spent 25 minutes speeding across the water at more than 80 km/h. Over the following days, we explored the other side of the island, including Anse Takamaka and Anse Intendance.

Overall, it was the perfect holiday for us and a wonderful combination of relaxation and adventure. Many thanks to the SeyVillas team for their highly professional support.
