Seychelles – Diversity, Variety and Unforgettable Experiences

After nine months of eager anticipation, we set off on our ‘dream holiday’ mission at the end of September. And to give you a little preview: our trip to the Seychelles exceeded all our expectations.

Armed with authentic and comprehensive information from Simone Schwerdtner’s ‘Seychelles Island Guide’, we landed at the small, charming airport on Mahé after two flights with Qatar Airways. We would also spend our first four nights on the island.

Mahé – driving on the left, parties and fruit bats

We stayed at the Lemongrass Lodge – a lovingly designed accommodation overlooking Beau Vallon. As our home for the next few days could only be reached via an extremely steep road, we hired a car through our host, Basil. This was a good decision not only because of the location of the ‘Lemongrass Lodge’, but also because it was perfect for exploring the whole island.

The adventure of driving on the left turned out to be easier than expected, even if we did occasionally confuse the indicators with the windscreen wipers. We discovered beautiful and, above all, varied beaches, visited the capital Victoria with its impressive Hindu Temple - Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar, and explored the Le Jardin Du Roi Spice Garden with its incredible variety of spices.

Another special highlight was the ‘Regatta Festival’, which drew people from all over the island to Beau Vallon during our stay. We were able to experience the locals’ lively celebrations first-hand and get to know them even better. However, we politely declined a Seychellois local’s suggestion to try fruit bat, a Seychellois delicacy, preferring instead to watch these fascinating animals at dusk.

Praslin – hospitality, snorkelling and giant tortoises

Our next stop took us to Praslin. The high-speed ferry carried us from the port on Mahé to this second wonderful island in just one hour. Here we stayed with Marie-France, a fantastic cook, and her Austrian husband, Martin, at the Beach Villa Guesthouse. The accommodation was located directly on Grand Anse. Although the beach was covered in seaweed, it was still wonderful to wake up there every morning and watch the sunrise over the sea.

After marvelling at the free-roaming giant tortoises and the beautiful natural surroundings, we enjoyed a fantastic barbecue on the beach at lunchtime before heading off to go snorkelling. Alongside the many colourful fish, at least one of us managed to spot a sea turtle. If only to give the other person the same experience, we will definitely fly to the Seychelles again.

La Digue – hiking, relaxing and a wonderful finale

We were sad to leave Praslin after four nights, but also incredibly excited about our next and final four days on La Digue. After the ferry crossing, we checked into the beautiful, well-maintained Fleur de Lys and hired bicycles – as one does on La Digue. We explored numerous beaches by bicycle in a short space of time, enjoyed a curry or two and some fresh drinking coconuts, and simply savoured this beautiful corner of the world. Accompanied by Robert from ‘Sunnytrailguide’, we embarked on a strenuous and challenging yet fantastic hike across granite rocks, through the jungle and water, discovering completely unspoilt beaches in the Seychelles. CONCLUSION: Thank you, SeyVillas!

As we mentioned at the beginning of this account, the trip exceeded all our expectations. We had never imagined the Seychelles would be so varied and diverse. In our opinion, it would have been a shame to spend the entire holiday on the beach. This paradise has so much more to offer. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our special thanks to SeyVillas, who organised the trip perfectly. We were always kept fully and transparently informed about all transfers and accommodation, so we never had to worry about any of these details. That makes a holiday so much more relaxing. We have rarely had such a reliable travel partner by our side.

We will definitely return – and when we do, it will certainly be with SeyVillas!
