Dream Honeymoon

After our wedding, we set off straight away on our honeymoon in the Seychelles. And it was the best decision we could have made. The Seychelles are the perfect place to recover from the stress of wedding preparations while making the most of your time as newlyweds. Anse Royale, MahéAnse Royale, Mahé

Mahé

Our journey began on Mahé at a smaller hotel (Marie-Laure Suites) in Beau Vallon, in the north of the island. Beau Vallon is a very good base from which to explore the entire island by hire car. The beach at Beau Vallon is also a highlight, and we really enjoyed watching the sunset from the beach on our very first day. Sunset at Beau VallonSunset at Beau Vallon As well as wonderful beaches, such as Anse Royale, Anse Major and Port Launay North Beach, Mahé offers plenty of other ways to get to know the country. We particularly enjoyed the tour of the Takamaka Rum Distillery , where the famous ‘Takamaka’ rum is made. The tour is free, and you learn a great deal about how the rum is produced there and what makes it so special. We then had the chance to discover this for ourselves during a rum tasting. We would therefore definitely recommend stopping there.

Praslin

On our fifth day, we continued to Praslin by ferry. We also had a hire car there, which allowed us to explore the island. Praslin is considerably smaller than Mahé, but we really appreciated the flexibility of having our own car and would do the same again. Our hotel (Berjaya Praslin Resort) was located directly on Anse Volbert (Cote d'Or), which we think is also one of the most beautiful beaches on Praslin.

Our absolute highlights, however, were Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette. The white sand, the turquoise water, the palm trees – you feel as though you are in paradise. Anse Lazio, PraslinAnse Lazio, Praslin As well as the usual beach hopping, we decided to take a day trip from Praslin to the neighbouring island of Curieuse. After a short boat trip to the island, we first had some time to relax on the beautiful beach. We then took a short hike across the island to the other side, where the giant tortoises live.

We decided against the tour with a barbecue, so we had plenty of time to admire the tortoises and relax on the beach. Another highlight of the excursion was snorkelling near St Pierre Island. The tiny island looks like something from a painting and is truly a snorkelling paradise. We saw countless different colourful fish and even sea turtles. Giant tortoise on CurieuseGiant tortoise on Curieuse With Vallée de Mai and Fond Ferdinand, Praslin offers two wonderful opportunities to learn more about the flora and fauna of the Seychelles. We chose Fond Ferdinand and spent a lovely morning among towering palm trees, with a real jungle atmosphere. As we learnt, Curieuse and Praslin are the only two islands where Coco de Mer palms are native. They are best known for their fruit, which can weigh up to 25 kg, making it the heaviest fruit produced by any plant.

Those willing to tackle the short, slightly strenuous walk to the viewing platform are rewarded with a beautiful view across the island. We really enjoyed Fond Ferdinand as a change from all the beach hopping. And if you visit at the right time, you can also join a free guided tour of the park. La Digue

After 5 nights on Praslin, we continued to La Digue for the final stage of our honeymoon. On La Digue, we chose a hotel with half board. It is by far the smallest island, and there are hardly any cars; most people get around by bicycle. The Patatran Village Hotel has its own bicycles available to hire at a reasonable price (we paid SCR 100 per person per day). We would choose both the hotel and half board again.

There are a few restaurants on the island, but considerably fewer than on the other islands, and they are mainly located in the island’s small village centre. The hotel is directly on Anse Patates. Although many people consider Anse Source d'Argent the most beautiful beach in the Seychelles, we personally found Anse Patates even more beautiful. It is very small, but simply idyllic. Pataran Village Hotel, La DiguePataran Village Hotel, La Digue Our particular highlights on La Digue were the hike to Anse Marron and another snorkelling excursion to the Sister Islands and Félicité. Friends had recommended the hike to Anse Marron, and we can only agree with their recommendation. Although the hike is quite strenuous in places, as you often have to climb over the many granite rocks, the views of the beaches and the southern part of the island make it all the more worthwhile.

At the end of the tour, you arrive at the beautiful Anse Source D’Argent, which is located in L’Union Estate Park. It is also the perfect place to recover from the hike and simply relax. Anse Source d'Argent, La DigueAnse Source d'Argent, La Digue Thanks to the island’s peaceful atmosphere, La Digue is a particularly lovely place simply to unwind. Most of the beaches are easily accessible by bicycle. We also particularly liked Petite Anse, which can be reached via a short footpath from Grand Anse.

After one last look back at Anse Patates, we returned to the harbour following 2 wonderful and unforgettable weeks, before taking the ferry and shuttle back to the airport. It was a truly wonderful honeymoon, and we can easily imagine returning to the Seychelles in a few years to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Anse Patates, La DigueAnse Patates, La Digue
