Our Dream Honeymoon in the Seychelles

For our honeymoon, we chose the Seychelles as our dream destination. We planned to travel in November to escape the cold season in Germany for three weeks. During our initial online research, we came across SeyVillas. At first, we were a little sceptical, as we usually prefer to travel independently and simply make all our own bookings. However, after taking a closer look at the SeyVillas website, we were immediately impressed by the easy-to-use Island Hopping Configurator. Once we had put together our dream trip and were also pleasantly surprised by the price, we decided to make our bookings through SeyVillas this time. We do not regret that decision. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, and we always received prompt replies. All the bookings went smoothly, and almost every hotel welcomed us with a little ‘honeymoon’ surprise. And so we flew with Turkish Airlines from Nuremberg via Istanbul to Mahé.

Part 1: La Digue:

To reach La Digue, we took a taxi from the airport to the ferry terminal and then travelled on the Cat Cocos via Praslin, arriving on La Digue in just under 1.5 hours. There, the small hotel Chez Marston awaited us, just 400 metres from the ferry terminal. We immediately liked our bungalow, and the 3-course dinner included with our half-board arrangement was absolutely delicious. The island captivated us straight away, so we hired bicycles for the next 3 days. It was a truly unique experience! They allowed us to explore the little island at our own pace. We quickly realised why the Seychelles are considered an absolute dream destination. The photographs in all the guidebooks and brochures have not been edited to make the scenery look breathtaking – it really is that spectacular. The Anse Source d'Argent, with its rock formations, was simply magnificent, and in the mornings it was still possible to find a quiet spot.Anse Source d'Argent, La DigueAnse Source d'Argent, La Digue The rather strenuous climb to the summit of Nid d'Aigle was rewarded with a magnificent view. In the afternoon, we also loved snorkelling at Anse Severe. The beaches on the east coast are definitely worth visiting, although swimming there is best suited to those who enjoy waves. The approximately 25-minute walk from Grand Anse, Petite Anse & Anse Cocos is a little adventurous, but you are rewarded with a wonderful swim in the small natural pool at Anse Cocos, which is sheltered from the waves. All in all, we were delighted with the 4 days we spent on La Digue.

Part 2: Praslin:

From La Digue, we took the ferry to Praslin. We reached the Seychelles’ second-largest island in just 20 minutes and checked into our hotel, Berjaya Praslin Resort. Here too, we received a warm welcome with a drink, and we liked our spacious room with its terrace. One highlight was dinner – we had half board here as well – which was served as a buffet in the beachfront restaurant. In good weather, you can dine by candlelight right on the beach while listening to the waves. The hotel’s beach, Anse Volbert (Cote d'Or), is a dream, with shallow water and white sand fringed by palm trees. Anse Volbert, PraslinAnse Volbert, Praslin We decided to explore the island in a hire car and managed to discover almost every corner during our 3 days there. We visited the beautiful beaches of Anse Lazio and Anse Boudin and drove the interesting route along the west coast past the small airport. When the traffic light turns red, you have to stop because a small aircraft is about to fly directly over the road. A real highlight was our visit to Fond Ferdinand nature reserve. Here, you can not only see the Coco de Mer in all its forms, but also learn a great deal about the local wildlife on the tour included in the admission price. Coco de Mer, Fond FerdinandCoco de Mer, Fond Ferdinand The climb of more than 600 steps is rewarded with a wonderful view over Baie Sainte Anne. We enjoyed an equally spectacular view from the observation tower at the island’s highest point after taking the short route to Glacis Noir. All in all, Praslin also confirmed that the Seychelles truly are a dream destination. After 5 nights, we continued our journey and headed for our next destination, the small island of Cerf.

Part 3: Cerf:

To reach Cerf, we first took the ferry to the main island of Mahé. After just over an hour and an enjoyable journey on the upper deck, we arrived at the ferry terminal and took a taxi for the 15-minute journey to Eden Island, where the boats to Cerf depart. The crossing was arranged by our accommodation, L'Habitation, in a small boat and took just under 10 minutes. As soon as we arrived at Cerf’s small jetty, we realised that we had reached a little paradise. The crystal-clear water beneath the jetty offered our first glimpse of the underwater world, while the green-and-white guest house of L'Habitation stood out brightly against the blue sky. The beautifully landscaped gardens were perfect for relaxing. Our spacious room, with its enormous balcony overlooking the sea, made us even more delighted. Dinner, which you should definitely book directly with your stay, was served in a lovely little restaurant and was excellent. We spent the next few days kayaking – kayaks are provided by the hotel free of charge – L'Habitation, Cerf IslandL'Habitation, Cerf Island snorkelling – there is even a free tour with a biologist at 10.30 in the morning – and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights in this peaceful oasis before venturing to the final stop on our journey, the main island of Mahé.

Part 4: Mahé:

We took the small boat back to Eden Island and continued from there to the airport, where we collected our hire car. We planned to spend the next 9 days exploring the largest island in the Seychelles independently. First, however, we headed to our hotel, The Beach House, which is situated on the beautiful Beau Vallon. When we arrived at The Beach House, we received a warm welcome and settled into our bungalow. It was lovely and spacious, and just across the road we could already see the inviting turquoise sea sparkling in the distance. The hotel is located at the northernmost end of the large main beach, where you can always find a peaceful spot if you prefer to stay away from the bustle. Nevertheless, the small pedestrian area is only a few minutes away, and in the evenings you can enjoy delicious takeaway food there, authentically seated on plastic chairs. During the 9 days we spent on Mahé, we discovered just how diverse the island is: from dream beaches Anse Parnel, MahéAnse Parnel, Mahé and strenuous hikes to viewpoints and tropical vegetation, there really is something for everyone. Our highlights included watching the waves at Petite Police, enjoying the view from ‘Venn’s Town’, snorkelling directly off Beau Vallon and, our favourite, the beach at Port Launay North Beach. Our conclusion after 3 weeks: everyone should visit the Seychelles at least once. For us, it was the ideal honeymoon destination, and we returned home with countless wonderful memories.
