Description:
Anse Royale is one of the most popular beaches on Mahé, located on the south-east coast of the island. The small town that lies next to the beach shares the name “Anse Royale”, and contains numerous different facilities, including a petrol station, hospital, banks, the Seychelles university, and a number of different accommodations. Getting to the beach is simple, thanks to the nearby public parking and bus stop. The beach is also close to numerous different accommodations, so can be reached on-foot for many guests. As mentioned, Anse Royale is a long, stretching bay that consists of a number of smaller beach sections. What they all share, however, is the protection afforded to them by the offshore coral reef. This fact, combined with the ideal swimming depth of the ocean (2 to 3 metres), ensures that the water is usually calm and ideally-suited to swimming or snorkelling. Meanwhile, Anse Royale is also good for windsurfing, especially when the trade winds blow in the summer months (June - September). Besides the inviting water, the nearby village ensures that there are plenty of restaurants and shops for guests to enjoy. Some of these shops will even rent equipment for fishing, snorkelling, or scuba diving, allowing you to make the most of the beach. This wide range of facilities and the safe nature of the beach ensures that Anse Royale has something to offer everyone from families with children to couples looking for a romantic setting. The beach is also home to a rich history, as this was the location where, in 1772, the first of the Seychelles’ spice gardens were set up. There is also a large church overlooking the water here, which contrasts the tropical scenery that surrounds it. With so much to offer, it’s little wonder that Anse Royale is one of the most popular beaches on Mahé - but don’t let its popularity put you off. The beach is plenty big enough that you will find your own spot to enjoy, and the huge array of activities and sights here make it a must-see for anyone staying on the Seychelles’ largest island.
